I'm suprised ESPN is going up against NCAA tournament games. Second round tips at noon as well. Looks like I'll be getting the little tv in the corner of the bar especially if Michigan and Michigan St both win Friday.

there were only 5700 at the game per a box score i found.

thats all?????? i hope the numbers pick up. this team deserves to play in front of a packed house. imo.
I think that is a good turnout. There was only a day and a half from the announcement to the game. It was at 9 p.m. on a Tuesday, and that was the highest attendance of any NIT game that night. Now that they have more time to sell tickets Sunday will likely have a bigger turnout.

I've heard Spring Break starts Friday. Hopefully, enough kids postpone their plans by a couple of days.

5,533 was the official number for the game against IND. That was by far the highest attended game of any NIT game the first night. ILL was second at 4,700 (in a 17,000 seat arena). GT was also the only school to have more than 40% of its arena filled.

2 teams last night had a larger attendance
Iowa had 12,864 (in a 15,000 seat arena)
BYU had 7,247 (in a 20,900 seat arena).

Only Iowa had a larger percentage of seats filled
FWIW, here is the complete list of attendance and arena size
GT 5,533/8,600
Cal 1,771/11,877
ILL 4,719/17,200
Monmouth 1,672/4,100
Clemson 2,785/9,000
Col St 2,836/8,745
AL 4,041/15,383
Utah 4,097/15,000

UGA 2,904/10,523
Syracuse 4,288/33,000
UCF 3,675/10,000
Houston 1,928/8,300
TCU 4,271/6,300
Iowa 12,864/15,000 (this one is very impressive)
Ill St 5,124/10,200
BYU 7,247/20,900

So GT ended up with the 3rd largest attendance and second highest percentage fill of any of the first round games. Hopefully we can do even better the second round.

Tom Crean has been fired. Karma.

Glad to see the GT attendance numbers relative to others. Looks and sounds like a solid turnout for GT, even though we were aided by at least 1,000 visiting fans.

At this risk of being labeled a Debbie Downer (I accept it), keep in mind, for attendance comparison sake, other teams and fans are disappointed to be in the NIT (and also played uninteresting opponents). As a fan of both teams, I watched the GT game intently and had the Syracuse game on as background noise. (The city of Syracuse also had a state of emergency during their game, fwiw).

If we get by Belmont and Syracuse wins as well, it should be an entirely different game and atmosphere at the Dome. The first solid opposing effort should knock the Orange out of this thing. No one - players or fans - really seems to care outside of AW3's performance against UNCG. Their defense was atrocious and they got by because it was UNCG.

Hopefully GT also gets to a point in the next few years that we are disappointed by NIT berths (and can just roll the ball out and win against lesser teams).
