from Kirby in AJC article
"What threw it off a little bit was Haynes King’s ability to throw the ball, because everything we had been told is his injury prevented him from throwing it. And you look at the previous two games, and he really didn’t. And, you know, there was points in time at NC State that it was a tight ballgame. If they were going to throw it, he would throw it with the guy, right? Well, they trusted it with Philo. So, you know, our expectation was if they were going to throw it with Philo, then we were going to do the other things. But Haynes came in and he threw the ball well and really had some advantageous looks to throw it off, because we had everybody committed to the box. I mean, like, we played stuff that we hadn’t played since we played the old Georgia Tech. Like, you had to play them different. And it was so different for our guys. We played defense that we never played. And that made it hard. You can’t three and out, I mean, three yards, three yards, three yards, those guys. And they do a great job. I mean, watching them play Miami, it was like, you know, Miami’s got some really pretty players out there, and they ran the ball. They did it on us.”

"Key should have gone for two to win it at the end of regulation"
Yup....
And Key should be embarrassed that he did not know the rules for OT that require a team to go for two in 2nd OT. He was forced to call our OT timeout..... the refs had to come over and explain it to him....
How is this possible?
I wonder why there are 13 other coaches standing on the sidelines or at at least 2 important ones that could comment.

We beat the mutts in every single phase of the game except on the scoreboard. Credit to UGA, they had the better refs. Go Jackets!
I understand that under contract rules ONLY the lead ref is from home school (and he was an ACC official before this yr)Supposedly---.So it wasn't just him.

Heartbreaking is an understatement. We simply had the chance to put those UGA-ly dawgs away in regulation time and we did not. OT is always is a slippery slope. I simply feel for the players and coaches, just gut wrenching.
Having said all that, we have a good (not great) football team that needs to be more consistent over 12 games and GT will get over that hump yet.
I just renewed my four season tickets and parking pass as my way of saying thank you Jackets and Coach Key and see you in 2025 and hopefully in a bowl game in three to four weeks.

Just came by to say that Georgia Tech played an amazing game. They outcoached, outschemed, and mostly outplayed the Bulldogs all night long. I was embarrassed for my fellow fans last night for being so unprepared and uninspired as a program for three quarters. UGA made stupid decisions like not taking the easy 3 points and going for 2 in regulation, while Buster seemed to have the UGA defense on skates all night long. Haynes King almost won the whole thing by himself. It's really good to see Georgia Tech back to being a very dangerous and capable football program again.
I know you mean no harm with this but I have heard this same sentiment from several UGA buddies since last night and it's downright infuriating. Do you guys call your Florida friends after a tough game and congratulate them on getting close and improving so much? Of course not. Crap like this is peak patting little brother on the head. We had the game won and we choked it away. Now instead of ribbing you guys throughout the holidays I get to hear, great game, you guys tried really really hard. Id honestly rather take crap for giving the game away.

And if they gave you crap for “giving the game away”, you’d be pissed at that, too.

I mean no harm with this, either, but this is a bad take.

Georgia has been on top the college football world for a long time and in the state of Georgia for even longer. For more than a decade, they've been focused almost exclusively on Alabama.

Now, they see headlights in their rear view mirror, and those lights are getting closer. It's the Ramblin' Wreck gaining on them.

And they know it.

I agree with both you and @WreckinGT .

They definitely know they were given this game and can feel us gaining on them.

But fk outta here with the 'gee, you guise played a guud game' horsesh*t. We don't need your pats on the head.

First, the good:

Our effort and guts were so much higher than UGAG's last night.
Haynes King is a freakin' tough hombre - if UGAG had him at QB, we would have stood no chance
Faulkner's play-calling for most of the game was top notch
For most of the game, our D did a fantastic job - ran out of players and gas toward the end (injury after injury)
Our assistant coaching staff is top notch

Now, the bad:

Chip shot FG, we win
Left a lot of points on the field in the first half
Make one freakin' yard in OT (after PI), we win
Our HC didn't even know that in the 2nd OT, you have to go for 2?
Don't understand BF's play-calling in most of the OT's

Proud of the effort - we should have won this game in regulation - I don't blame Haynes for the fumble - it was a vicious tackle with helmet to the ball. Again, we make a chip shot FG in the first half, or we finish a drive where we got inside the 5, we win. Honestly, we left at least 10 more points off the board in the first half.

Personally never been more proud to be a fan. We took them to 8 OT In year 2 with a wounded QB and Defensive backfield. There are things going on within our athletic program, on the recruiting trail, and on the Football field that I have never seen in my life. For the first time I feel that Tech is no longer accepting our fate and are committed to winning at a level I never deemed possible. Being a younger fan I had accepted that Tech would struggle to attract talent and keep up in the arms race of college football, but right now what we are doing has me more excited then I’ve ever been as a fan.

After this game, I thing they really need a hard look at OT rules .
1) change the timeout rules...should times outs for all of OT not each round
2) two point shootouts ... How many plays realistically do teams have for this
