GT #1 in SATs for Public Colleges

What is impressive to me is not the SAT scores, but how much better rounded the students are than the '70s. The kids these days do a lot more outside of classes than the ones from my time.

I bet we have the highest average SAT on our football team of any public college too........ well maybe not any but any Power 5 for sure.

Would be interesting to know what USCw, Baylor, Vandy, Miami, Wake, Stanford, Tulane, Duke, Rice averages would be. I believe these are all private schools.

Not to hijack the thread...but can someone explain the attraction of Wake Forest? What's their "specialty" that makes paying that much money worth it over a Duke, Emory, GT, Vanderbilt?

My brother was taking a tour of Wake as an accepted undergrad, and was trying to decide between Wake, GT, and UNC. Wake's tour guide, an undergrad at the time, asked him what schools he was considering and when my brother told him, the tour guide goes "Do NOT come here, I made the mistake of choosing Wake over Carolina."

In this article from 2008, GT had the highest SAT score for its football players in the nation. Ugag was also listed as having 3/4 of its football team being special admits.

wow....on that list GT is #38. after barely "getting out" at Tech I cannot fathom what school must be like at the top 10 or so on that list. As far as "degree of difficulty" Tech was all I wanted (and more) as an 18-22 year old. Couldn't have stood any more.

Being able to be more selective doesnt make the academics more rigorous necessarily. I would t assume the schools above GT were any more difficult to graduate from. Especially in paper writings majors.

I think they originally wanted to, but Virginia State is an HBCU in Richmond that wouldn't give up its name.

A lot of those schools are difficult matriculation, easy graduation. I think Tech has moved in this direction over the last 20 years as US News has included student satisfaction and happiness as well as retention in their metric.

Fair enough but to people from GA, Ettrick/Petersburg could be more easily identified as Richmond

My son is an IV Leaguer (not bragging ) and he has admitted that the hard part is getting in. He was an Analytical Math major and although he's pretty darn bright, he said it was not that hard.

I guess it is a "chicken and egg" type question here. Was it not that hard for him because he was smart enough to get in? Would a typical student at Tech or equivalent (who wouldn't have been admitted) thought the same? Just like a kid who couldn't have gotten into GT would have little or no chance for success at the NATS.

although I felt that GT was made harder by quality of instruction (or lack thereof) rather than the material. i felt like this was especially true in the FR/SO "weedout" classes - calculus, physics, chemistry, statics and dynamics, etc.

Wake Forest has a good banking program. As in, your dad works for Bank of America, you're a business major, and you get hired right out of college for moderately above average salary.

Sounds like a moderately above average reason for 1% of the students that go to Wake...now why in heck is the other 99% paying private school money to attend that place?
