Well, when Philo came in, NC State backed off the safeties into a more traditional look and blitzed. That worked until they went full retard with the 3 down linemen and everyone else seemingly playing man to man leaving Philo with all kinds of lanes to run through. I don't think UGA will be so obliging. I think we will struggle to run against them but we will see. Beck every once in a while has a game when he plays like he has no idea what he is doing. To win, we will need a 4 to 0 turnover margin. IIWII

From what I’ve heard, it’s a day of thing with King. He can throw some days and other days there’s nothing. Some days he’s a go, others he’s not. I think NC State was one of those where he was a go, but it wasn’t a throwing day.

After watching the play breakdown video, it amazed me how much growing Philo still needs. He’s a hell of a talent, but there are still miles to go in terms of development. I think uga will do better than NCST, but they’re not what they were last year or the year before. They are not invincible. I wish we were going into this game healthier because I think uga is beatable.

That fight personifies what this rivalry is all about. Two very different schools with different cultures, different student bodies, and vastly different academics There was a whole lot of swinging and grabbing in that fight but not much contact. One swing by the Georgia player missed by a foot even though he was holding on to the Tech player's faceguard. That was nothing compared to a fight at the end of a Clemson - South Carolina game years ago that featured a half dozen fights going on on the field and a few in the stands. One idiot for Clemson actually took his helmet off and was swinging it like a battle axe until a Carolina player sucker punched him. Fun times. Correction it was a Carolina player who lost his helmet and a Clemson player threw the helmet into the stands. Some people will remember this as following the infamous "Malice in the Palace" brawl between the Pistons and some other NBA team. It went down in 2004. The sight of Lou Holtz trying to separate players was comical.

Is that what Sapp thought after they broke the 8 straight record in ‘57? I think the move away from the relevance of the game has tarnished the ardor, but let Kirby lose 3 in a row and we’ll see how emotional that becomes. I believe he lost to GT his senior year and was on staff for 2 losses the next 2 years, so he saw what 3-in-a-row did to Jim Donnan after posting 9-3, 8-4, 8-4 records but losing to GT 3X.

it's going to be tough. If King can't throw, GA will do exactly what NCST did; bring the safetys up to the LOS, and stuff ANY run game. In that case Philo will need to carry the load, a lot to ask of a true FR. If King can throw we've got a shot. Will need a coule of TO IMHO.

I think there's a fallacy that because Team A did one thing against Team B, Team C will do the same thing. The fallacy is it's only about Team A and Team C. We forget that Team B can also change. Do you think Team B (GT) didn't learn anything from the NC State game as well to help the run game? More on this later.

Miami has a better rushing defense (#23) than UGA. We put up 271 yards of rushing against Miami. Some say Miami never adjusted to the King/Philo swaps, but they did towards the end.

Looking back at the tape, King's arm is actually stronger than I originally thought. He was throwing screen passes to the sidelines that were 20-30 yards. He was throwing them on a rope...which tells me he still has some strength left in his arm. You just won't see him throw 40-50 yard bombs. On that first drive, King missed a TE breaking wide open. I saw some comments that King was frustrated because he saw the TE but couldn't throw that far. The TE was only about 25 yards down field. King was frustrated because he saw the TE break open AFTER he let go of the ball to the receiver in the flats. So what does this have to do with the running game? King could have made that throw, and that would have changed the complexion of how the defense plays King. Defenses aren't crashing the LOS if they know the QB can at least throw it over the top of the LB's head...and that was the throw King should have made to the TE.

NC State was flashing 7-9 guys in the box before the snap against King. Everyone saw that. After the snap, the safeties would crash the LOS. This is where I think the NC State game is going to help us against UGA. You can only load the box and crash the safeties so many ways. One thing I think it helps is I think Faulkner and Key are going to take the training wheels off of Philo. Philo will be much more involved in the running game outside of scrambling when receivers aren't open. NC State was a good game for Philo in terms of running the full offense. There were two instances where Philo should have pulled the ball for a long run in the first half. You could see him walk off the field and point to himself...as in "I should have kept the ball".

I also think King will throw the ball further down field than just screen passes. He won't be throwing the ball 10+ times, or throw the ball 40+ yards down the field, but I do think Faulkner will scheme guys open on the 2nd level just beyond the LBs. This will keep the safeties more honest and not clog running lanes...which will lead to more yards in the rush game.

It's not just one thing that GT needs to do, it'll be a combination of many things. I think NC State was an important game to have before the UGA game because of exactly how they played us...and Faulkner and our offense have experience against that now.

One thing I'd like to see GT do is get Avery Boyd involved in the running game. He reminds me a LOT of Cordarrelle Patterson who used to play for the Falcons. Put him in jet motion and either use in the read option run game, or use him as a "momentum" blocker in front of the QB. Boyd is a BIG body that has speed.

If GT doesn't run for more than 170+ yards, I just don't see how we have a chance against UGA. We need to keep the ball as much as possible because I think Carson Beck is playing some of the best football he's played all season.

By this time tomorrow, we'll see how it all plays out.

Great response. I do 100% agree that the NCSU game was a great tune up for this game and gave our coaches something to build upon. I will note that your response is somewhat based on King having more in his gas tank from your film review that what i thought based on seeing it live without benefit of replay. Hope you are right about this. As i have maintained, along with most others, a 100% healthy Haynes King would change change my feelings heading into tomorrow. WTBS, I am still nervously optimistic that this will be a ball game much like last years. (albeit hopefully with a better outcome).

Well if we know that, don't you think Buster knows it as well? I seriously doubt we play offensively the same way we did against NC State. As a matter of fact it would surprise me one bit if we played State very simple thinking we could beat them without having to show too much. Particularly after we were able to shut them down for the first 3 quarters. We have also had a few more days to prepare for this game since we played on Thursday. I have to believe we have some offensive wrinkles for the dwags that they haven't seen or had a chance to prepare for. It would be foolish to think we will come out and play the same way we did against the Wolfpack. If everyone here understands that I have to think Buster and Brent do as well.

This stuff isn’t complicated. It’s about being able to execute it against well-prepared superior athletes, which is what UGA’s D is.

No Aaron Philo tonight. Gonna be King and Pyron - I am guessing this was a mutual decision between Key/Philo to preserve Philo’s redshirt. It does feel a little bit like waving the white flag if I’m being just totally honest, but I also want to keep Philo happy and loyal to the Jackets.
