The thing is Van Gorder did lock up our offense when he was at ND. Don't think he will, though. Petrino is just one of those coaches that maks every other coach want to beat him like Gene Krupa. Must be his motorcycle.

They brought in a specialist triple-O Def coord for our game, not sure VanGorder had much to do with it

In 2015, ND opponents averaged 4.6 yards per carry which is exactly what we averaged against them when we played them that year.

Copying and pasting from my post in another thread for my weekly matchup from a recruiting angle:

2018
GT (54): AVG: 0.8476, 4 Star - 2
UL (30): AVG: 0.8702, 4 Star - 4

2017
GT (48): AVG: 0.8389, 4 Star - 1
UL (34): AVG: 0.8556, 4 Star - 3

2016
GT (60): AVG: 0.8322, 4 Star - 0
UL (38): AVG: 0.8456, 4 Star - 2

2015
GT (44): AVG: 0.8446, 4 Star - 0
UL (33): AVG: 0.8540, 4 Star - 3

Total 4 Stars
GT - 3
UL - 11

On average, UL recruits 2 bands better than we do (30's vs 50's). IMO, anything within 1 band is a toss up, and goes to coaching/having a special playmaker/mistakes. Anything beyond 1 band gives the other team a 7 point edge (in my super scientific research...and by "super scientific" I mean my opinion :)).

I think Petrino and CPJ are about equal coaches. Both are VERY good for what they do. It's a toss up here.
Both teams have made a lot of mistakes against FBS opponents. It's a toss up here.

IMO, Louisville has some really good playermakers on both sides that could be a factor.

Let's also remember, GT hasn't won a road game since 2016, and the game is at Louisville on a nationally televised night game. The environment will not be conducive how we've been playing.

As bad as Louisville has been playing, at some point Petrino's team will figure it out. My hope is they don't figure it out until after we leave Kentucky.
Man, those stats just reiterate what a terrible job we did in capitalizing on the 2014 year and turning it into recruiting wins. 2015 and 2016 were not good years. If PJ doesn't survive the next couple of years, I think the failures on the recruiting trail those two years will be the reason.

Hard to keep up with the recruiting game when the money support was falling further and further behind.

YPC, I know, is a big stat for lots of people. I suppose it should be. I am more concerned with PPG, and not in the basketball sense.

LOL. At least their fans have a sense of humor:

https://247sports.com/college/louisville/Board/103994/Contents/35-point-underdogs-to-GT-122779046/

Should be a fantastic pillow fight

Well, can't say we're the only miserable fanbase...
LOL
They are 2nd in the nation in rushing offense and we're 112th.

We do outrank them in passing offense though.. we're 101 and they're 124 (but they don't even try to throw.. and we do).

We're 84th in rushing defense.

Should be a good time.

And like many here...
I expect us to lose until proven otherwise.

Hard to keep up with the money support with the winning seasons falling farther and farther behind.

Chicken or egg?

My plan remains to enjoy an evening game. At least it's not a noon kick off. It is as it is.

I can relate to most of the L'Ville posters who don't know what is going to happen.
