Should have kicked the FG at the 1 yard line to go up 15.

With two chances to run it in from less than a yard we should have scored a TD to put the game away. A field goal (with this team is "iffy") still keeps it at only a two score lead. To be a winning team we must improve enough to score running inside the one yard line, especially with two chances. I fault the pass play call on fourth down as we do not have the passing "touch" or the big fast sticky finger receiver. We are 0-for-several calling that play in the red zone. There are times when you should challenge your manhood and this was one of those times. And if you fail it highlights the priority to work on it.

On balance we had a great game with great effort, showed massive improvement in many areas, played much cleaner and smarter, had pressure on the passer, and cleaned up a lot of past mistakes. Progress was clearly there. We did not get out-coached. The big things we did not do well was to continue to not get any meaningful yardage on first down, got field goals in the red zone instead of TDs, gave up two long passing scores in the last 2 minutes, pass blocking continues to be a major weakness, and did not "milk the clock" near as much as we should in the last 6 minutes or so. We needed to run Sims more.

Pitt played poorly but for a change we stepped up to take advantage of what they gave us and we played with great effort. (another great performance by C Thomas).. We definitely progressed a heap and this game gives us some pride and hope. Congratulations to the players and coaches.

Why is Hassan Hall getting so many carries? Isn't he 3rd on the depth chart? What did I miss?
You mean the guy that just went for 20 carries and 157 yards?!?!? Maybe the problem was the coach that had him 3rd on the depth chart. Kinda like the coach having the kicker that went 4/4 last night on the bench while the started missed just about everything he attempted.

I agree, that decision really made me question how smart CBK might be, secure the win or make it much more secure. If we had not scored again we lose the game it appears. With our lack of scoring ability we don't know if we might score again.
You guarantee overtime at worst there. Just take the points.

On the other hand, when he kicked on 4th and 1 to go up 6-0 I would have had no issue going for it on that one.

I agree that those were debatable calls. But that's just it...reasonable people might debate if it was the right call or not. That's not where we were before the coaching change.

I disagree. In general, data analytics support going for it in this situation. You either get a TD or turn over on downs and give them horrible field position. Situationally, FG or not, we’re up two scores. Get the TD, and it’s game over up three scores.

I wouldn’t have been upset if we had opted to kick the FG as that wouldn’t have been an egregious call but not the right one, in my opinion.

Gavin Stewart was hurt for UCF. Jude Kelley handled placekicking and kickoff duties.

Stewart has always been our kickoff specialist when healthy. He pulled double-duty on Saturday.
