Newsflash: we aren't uga or awebarn. We dont have that level of fan support. We dont have that amount of money.

The fans of those schools actually believe they will win every game and will go to away games to take over the stadium, no matter who they play.

Stop wetting your Pampers and join reality. Once we start putting together consecutive 10 win seasons for a decade, then we can complain about going to a g5 stadium. Until then, just support your team man, is it really that hard?

Is it really that hard to not make a fundamentally stupid decision? Must be.

You can not seem to grasp it has nothing to do with”going to a g5 stadium”.

Is it really that hard to go to a legitimate P5 stadium we don’t normally go to once every 10 to 15 years? Might best refocus on who is or isn’t supporting the team.

You say it has nothing to do with going to a G5 stadium, but literally the next sentence you type is about how we should be going to a “legitimate P5 stadium” instead.

I also find it interesting that you call this a “fundamentally stupid decision”. A decision made by an athletic department bleeding money. This decision will save the department money on travel, lodging, and many other expenses. All this while also playing a game close to home that allows our weak traveling fan base the opportunity to see another game in person that year.

So, Ole Miss, Colorado, Alabama, Notre Dame and Florida St, away games in places that are bigger than BDS@HGF, that we dont goto regularly and are on our IMCOMPLETE future opponents schedule in the next 10 years, that's isn't good enough for you?

How hard is it to understand that football schedules are generally made atleast 5 years in advance and noone wanted to play us when we were an option team. Now with a new system and new AD, we are scheduling those games. It take time man.

Most teams have 3 or 4 OOC games a year, we have 4. uga is always one of them. An FCS school will generally be one. A g5 school is the other. And the last is up for grabs, except when ND is on our schedule. Unless E$PN starts picking us for these one off neutral site games and pays us, it IS financially smart to stay in a local area so our fans can be there.

This is a fun local game that wont even cost us a blip on the budget when we play at the Ted or in our own stadium. It's a win win and it gets the young alumni, who like it or not are the future supporters of the GTAA, to go in with their ga state friends and buy group tickets.

Our athletic dept is in red by multiple millions of dollars. Unless you want to write one check and cover that, then accept things like this that will help solve some money troubles and be a new opponent.

Oh and by the way, by the time we beat them in 2024, we will be the only D1 school in the state to beat every other D1 team since 2000. The mutts cant say that.

GO GEORGIA TECH, THE TRUE NUMBER 1 TEAM IN THE STATE!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable. Did some of you guys really obtain your critical thinking skills by attending GT? And we claim some sort of academic high ground? Hilarious.

Tell us when Auburn will play AT Alcorn State, or when ugag will plat AT ETSU.
You are aware that ETSU and Alcorn State are not G5 teams, aren’t you? They are FCS teams, and OF COURSE Auburn and (u)GA would not play at those school’s home fields. News flash: neither would we.

If you are going to lambaste someone for their lack of critical thinking skills, you might want to start by not setting up a false dichotomy.

Do you guys think Georgia Fans acted this weird when they scheduled Georgia Southern? Tech fans want to prove they’re smart so bad they will argue back and forth on wether not playing Ga State is a good idea.

Then obviously we need to schedule away games at KSU, ga southern, Albany state, Clark, morehouse, and savannah State.

And to really save $, we could let Clemson, fsu, bama, ugag, vt and others be the home team at MBS with our guys being the visitors.

you obviously have no concept that what conference or division another school is in doesn’t matter to me in this conversation.

I feel bad that you can not grasp the concept of not wanting to, have an interest in, don’t care about any so called $ savings (because nobody knows the $ details of this game or of financial deals if we played at Texas, penn st, Troy or anywhere else) scheduling an Away game in our own city.
I
Doesn’t matter. Keep telling yourselves that when we are at gsu and ugag is at Ohio St that the media hates us for not covering our game the same.

I'm guessing the level of reaction on this thread is due to not having enough other news to talk about. Scheduling GSU and rescheduling Bama for the 3rd(?) time seems to be the definition of, "meh...", to me.

Also, It's 6 1/2 years until the game at GSU... if you think you know what this will mean to our program in 2026, then you are full of yourself.

False Dichotomy. Geesh. I just grabbed a couple teams off their next years schedule. Take it to the debate team thread.

You are right. Let us celebrate how weak many in our fan base are. That will help.

And nobody has addressed why other schools don't schedule away games with lower division teams in their own city.

If this is to save money why don't we schedule a game at ksu?

Whatever. Hope it works out.

Allow me to retort.

Noone else has a g5 school in the same city.

And news flash, ksu isn't a g5 school, whereas ga state is.

Next argument. Or better yet, lay down before you hurt yourself.

Yep, you are right about everything except one point.

The implication people were afraid to schedule a TO team. Bullcrap.

Colorado made the schedule when we ran the TO. Kansas, tenn, usf, ucf, ole miss all did. Anyone saying bama was "scared" to play us is acting foolish and is disingenuous at best.

But the schedule is made and you guys are correct. It is the best thing for a program that doesnt envision itself improving in 5, 10 or 15 years, or being able to build its fanbase.

Gonna be great.

You, as usual, are probably 100% correct.

But i thought furman was g5? And greenville and clemson are pretty much same city. I thought uab was g5, but again , you are probably correct. I can very well imagine bama fans think bham is the same as Tuscaloosa. So they should probably, following our immaculate logic, schedule an away game at uab.

Again you are correct about ksu but the whole point is being missed (but that would not be a mistake on your part).

The point is since we can not afford (in say 10 years) to travel to an away game we don't normally have, and since we have no hope of building a bigger & more loyal fan base, we need another away game basically in our city against any team regardless of classification or division. It is the only fair thing to do for our shrinking budget and fan base.

It is past time we dream of doing better - we GT after all.

Thanks for putting it all in realistic terms and perspective.

I just don’t understand what the big deal is. You keep bringing up Bama, Clemson, UGA, etc. as examples for teams that don’t play road games at G5 stadiums. Tech is in nowhere near the same situation those schools are in. The GSU series saves money, and provides excitement for an otherwise boring G5 matchup. It’s not about being able to “afford” playing a true road game against another school, but it’s simply a financial decision to save money that would be spent unnecessarily by playing any other team.

Also, Furman is FCS, and I don’t think there are any reasonable Alabama fans that think Tuscaloosa and Birmingham are the same. If they do, it would be as absurd as UGA fans thinking Athens and Atlanta are the same thing. You say thinking Bama and Clemson playing away games at G5 stadiums is absurd, but I think comparing Georgia Tech to Alabama is absurd.
