Everyone who is worried about CGC pulling A kid’s ride should just watch what happens with Wesley Wells. If he keeps his this year, then we know he isn’t yanking them.

I would feel better if he was aware of his weaknesses, the biggest of which seems to be that he is a just a middlin' game day coach. He seems to be a good recruiter -- but let's give that a couple of years to see if it is mostly just a new offense -- as some of his post-kickoff decisions in 2019 were baffling. As for the "overall vision" ... what is that exactly?

The game day stuff I'm not as sure about. There's limited track record, and experience in that role may be the only thing. Early in his HC career CPJ way out-coached Dabo on the field. Doesn't seem so important now. As for his awareness, that I can't attest to here. I realize that most of his public comments aren't aimed at the dedicated Tech fan/alumnus, and so he's generally on a positive branding mission that isn't exactly supported by "here's how we (and me) are bad." Of course, I would evaluate positively someone saying publicly "here's where I need to improve and how I'm going about it" when it is earnestly offered. Just because we're not hearing it though doesn't mean it isn't there. It's an unknown.

As for overall vision, just listen to him. Developmental program building a positive and highly engaged culture, publicizing it as a brand of excellence in all walks of life for those involved and integrating that with the local community, our own unique and successful history, making the NFL more accessible for our players -- aiming to put GT in the center of college football.

Obviously there's a lot of lofty and abstract stuff there, and a lot of things which sound like marketing fluff. To me they are marketing, and being the best at everything is totally dumb as an empty aspiration, yet they aren't fluff. He really has changed our relationship with the media, the community, and the NFL. He is seeming to attract a different caliber of athlete to the flats and at the same time valuing far more than football. He is getting kids to work harder and be closer with themselves and the staff off the field. His practices are fast paced and involving everyone possible, and he does take a lot of time to develop players not cracking the 2-deep. The intrinsic rewards for effort are reinforced with a high degree of intention, and be builds in competition to a host of areas of the team, etc. A lot may be cheesy or just odd (e.g. ATL), but that right there just fits with the competition, position flexibility, open play opportunities, focusing on development and depth instead of prioritizing starters, etc.

Here’s the thing, Collins is definitely changing the GT landscape and a lot of folks are nervous especially with only 3 wins. But, here’s the rub, a 3 win season may be what we needed to jolt us out of our yearly routine because GT football was the old guy in his lazy boy watching reruns and collecting social security checks. Our recruiting, as a whole, reflected that and we were fine with it. Collins and staff in 1 year has showed us that GT can be cool and high school kids are reflecting that. My own kids wear more GT gear now than previously and it’s all about perception, the 3 wins be darned. We won 3 freaking games and yet he put together one of our best recruiting classes in years. That is what we call “outside the norm”. Better recruiting will lead to more wins which will lead to better recruiting. And for those who simply refuse to see it, you have little to worry about. If Collins fails we can always go find a re-tread coach who “will do it the right way” and fight with Eastern Carolina for recruits.

First I like CGC but your hate for CPJ makes me sick.

Is it possible to acknowledge how stagnant GT football has become with some freaking out and thinking anyone that brought it up hates CPJ? Can everyone acknowledge that CPJ did great things at Tech, but he probably wasn’t going to get to those heights in the foreseeable future? It’s okay to move on, it’s okay to mention ways GT football is moving forward without bringing up the fact that CPJ won an Orange Bowl. I assume there are some out there that will never be pleased with CGC until he wins an Orange Bowl for that exact reason.

Is it possible to just talk about CGC and not worry about any past coach. He ( CGC ) did a great job with recruiting now let see how the upcoming season plays out.

Lol. Obviously not when you make posts like this

YOU were the one who brought him up in the first place. The post you responded to never even mentioned CPJ, and really never even referred to him. It only mentioned the program as a whole.

This entire fan base is about to flip soon too when we start playing good ball. The old men better learn to suck it up cause we are taking over.
There is an entire untapped market of the African American community that is half and growing of Atlanta. There’s no reason our fan base at the games should be 95% white. They seem to have a larger contingent in Athens for whatever reason.

The falcons game is a great example of this community. They love football and we should market more to fill our seats IMO.

Not sure but I think his was only for one year not showing he has it now
It will absolutely have zero to do with it. You are talking about a walk-on that was given a one year scholarship based on left over money/scholarships. It is not the same at all. I am not privileged to have been in the room when Wells received his scholly but have been in that room with others. The athlete is made aware that it is a 1 year deal from the get go. Sorry, this response was about Midtown Jacket and Wesley Wells. Don’t know what I was doing but must have been using my thumbs!!
