Seems like another upstanding young student-athlete!

I always find it odd sounding when players refer to each other by first name. Fans seem to mostly use their last names.

Remember his recruiting pic - looked like a rail. Somebody has been working out hard! Way to go gt strength team.

As I said before, give this young man a year with the trainers and we're looking at Greg Gathers, part deux. He's got the frame and the motor to be a great DE for us for the next 3 years.

Btw, I met one of his high school classmates not long ago. She knew him well and thought he was the cat's pajamas. And I got a clear signal that he was in the crosshairs of just about every female at Calloway High.

Love it, he's having success now playing smart and using his speed. Can't imagine him once he's got strength and a few lbs to throw around.

Also love that a Freshman 3 star recruit was the ACC DL of the week, not freshman of the week, DL!

He seems very well spoken and mannered. Plays football at a high level too. Im pretty sure he was a wanted man in highschool. Ahh... back when life was good lol

you just shake your head in wonder a little bit that this young man is a True Freshman, starting for, and making big contributions to the #24 team in the country at a position on DLine.

true freshman...wow...biggest hit on DLine in PJ's tenure I think, which leads me to trust the staff and their targets moving forward!

he will be 255 by start of next year. Maybe 260. Perfect. He can throw on 15 more lbs easy.

WDE locked down for next 3 years. Freeman at 6-1 or 6-2 if he grows and 255/260 is ideal
Don't forget about our Juco All-American waiting in the wings as well.

I dont think whitehead will win out as a every down end unless he puts on 35 pounds. You are more likely to see him go in opposite of freeman and that DE move inside on passing downs (especially if that end is gamble or gotsis)than you are with him beating out freeman.

Just a hunch.....or a guess.

if some on here think he'll grow to 260, then maybe put him at SDE especially if whitehead is an elite pass rusher. It would be great to finally have an SDE that has a great motor and can apply pressure in passing downs.

I'm not arguing that Freeman won't play. I'm with you, I think he's going to be great. I was just saying don't forget about Whitehead because he's supposed to be really good as well.

Whitehead, iiuc, has been almost exclusively a pass rusher. We'll probably play other DEs in rush defense.

Thats why u playe whitehead on one side for passing downs.

If freeman can be 255 he is a perfect wde. Ideally your Sde is a guy like days around 275 that can move. Or gamble. You remove the sde for whitehead and rotate the line. A sde at 255 and wde at 209 is not good mojo for everydown success. Especially when your dt is 285 and 280.

But a 280 285 280 255 line is just fine for everydown and then u can bring in your specialists as needed.

Just my ideas really.

You never know how much he's improved his Rush D the last year working with the coaches...I mean he's played in rush defense almost exclusively this fall

Just think, Freeman is doing what he is right now without really having the ability to bull rush. If he can put on the weight and add some leg drive and upper body strength, he will be pretty good. As soon as an OT has to respect the bull rush and brace himself accordingly, then the speed rush techniques all work that much better.

I was just going to say the same thing. Before the season started and before we found out that Whitehead was not going to qualify on time, I had ranked the defensive end players in my mind. My ranking was: Whithead, Freeman, Antonio Simmons and Tyler Merriweather. What excited me was that I felt like any of these players could be a regular player by their sophomore year. Now I think I was not being optimistic enough.
