Film Study: What Tech did against NCSU and what to expect against UGA

FWIW, I don't expect King to be any different against UGA than against the last opponents. I doubt we see him pass much until next fall.

If he cant throw at all why would he not get surgery now and start rehab to be ready sooner?
Now if he can throw to a wide open tight end, that cpould help.

He might get worse. NC State did a fine job shutting down our run game but just could not close the deal on that last drive. It is telling that the Wolfpack abandoned the defense that had worked so well for them most of the game and went into that passive 3 man pressure with 8 defenders in the back which Philo ripped to shreds finding holes to run through. Then, Tech's defense says "hold my beer" and does the same thing allowing the Pack to get in position for a winning field goal. I just don't understand coaches sometimes.

Ncst did not have masive dt like uga. On pure pass our gcg ol has had issues with pocket being moved toward qb. The ol gave philo a clean pocket for the most part.

I watched a game in the 2000s with a buddy that graduated from Florida and became a podiatrist. We were watching Tech play #3 (?) ranked Miami in a game that Miami was heavily favored as they were undefeated. Anyway, this was when Tenuta was in all his glory with zone blitzes, fire blitzes, red dog blitzes, corner blitzes, safety blitzes and Christ alone knows what else he did. Tech blitzed, blitzed, and blitzed some more and the Miami quarterback who was a freshman was sacked nine time. It was something else. Near the end of the game with Tech seemingly having the game in hand , my buddy said now Tech will go in the prevent defense and Miami will mount a comeback. I told him Tenuta will keep blitzing and sure enough that is what he did . My friend was thunderstruck never seen such a thing before. A little hyperbole but you get the idea.

I remember at the time some reporter saying that "Tech's defense starts blitzing right about when they step off the bus."

That was a fun time to watch the Tech D.

Tanoota used to do it to the extreme, but it was largely effective.

Has UGAg been playing with an odd front this season? I don’t think they have (not sure). Assuming no, they are unlikely to change what they do for us. They have a good defense. NCST tape will not help them all that much. Our QB situation is a huge concern, obviously. When HK is in, overcoming the heavy box when you can’t chuck it more than 5 yards downfield is pretty hard to do, especially when you are going against a top ten defense. Our offensive staff has a tall task ahead. Your guess is as good as mine about how we decide to approach this. One thing is for sure, we are going to need to rise together collectively and play our best in all phases(which I don’t believe we have seen yet this season) to have much of a chance. We can’t count on them laying an egg.

They’re not, but they’re still pretty good. We are #32 and they are #38. The difference is we’re #81 pass efficiency D and they’re #30.

I know DFEI isn't everyone's cup of tea, but uga is 8th vs 48th for GT. Their Defensive F+ is 9th vs 53rd for GT. In points per drive, they are 31st vs 65th for us. For reference, Miami ranks 49, 40, and 48th in those categories. NCSU is much worse and we struggled to be consistent on offense against them.

If we had a healthy Haynes King, I think we'd light them up, but as it stands right now, their D is what worries me. I am hoping CBF has something up his sleeve.

It worked with passing offenses that ran typical downfield routes that took a little longer for reads. Teams that threw quick passes ate it up. I think it was Utah but maybe BYU that completely dominated our D with short passes. It did work most of the time.
