Would MLB attrack the crowds all season if it was a forgot e cobcluconc that the Yankees and Dodgers would end up in the World Series every year?

I agree with this. It will become increasingly dull if the NC is Clemson vs. Alabama every year. There has to be a reasonable chance that any team in the pre-season Top 25 can win it.

I have always liked Clemson and our rivalry with them. I respect what Dabo has done there. I think it is authentic and genuine. When I was back in the corporate gig, I saw people (extremely few) who could rally others like that. And I also saw people who tried to emulate and copy their methods. It doesn't work via emulation. This is a leadership skill that one either has or doesn't. I noticed that the more the word "morale" was used by a manager or company, the less of it there actually was.
Dabo uses the word "love" a lot. He also is genuine when he uses it. I think you are right that not many people can pull that off.

My take on CPJ is that he had the same level of love for his players as Dabo but did not have the same, "Ah, shucks, we're just all simple people around here," affect. CPJ's sometimes gruff exterior belied his inner care and concern for his players. He also was a lot more cynical about the role of money and influence in the NCAA pecking order.

I am probably in the minority, but I am against any type of redistribution of wealth. Alabama and OSU and the like have realized the benefits of investing in FB. If all teams split the earnings equally, all of a sudden they will have the worst ROI in college FB. Rutgers and Oregon State and Wake Forest will make the same with significantly less investment. What would motivate them to invest and/or improve if guaranteed to make the same cash as Bama and the like, who are doing most of the heavy lifting in terms of generating revenue? These types of ideas, while utopian and ideal, make me shudder.

I’m with you. The idea of collecting all the cash and giving everyone their ration makes me shudder as well.
The answer could lie in capping spending in certain areas. Don’t ask which areas....that’s above my pay grade.

Funny. I thought college athletics was about developing SA's. I must be wrong.

You lack self confidence. You are NOT wrong. Developing SA's is a component. perhaps the guy at Rice does a better job developing his players than Saban does...but perhaps Saban starts with better raw material. Do not beat yourself up by reading things in posts that aren't there.

What Alabama is selling is still a problem for most of the rest of college football. In theory each school is selling a different product and what they are good at. Athletes then find the best academic, cultural and life goals fit for them.

In reality Alabama has reduced it down to one product -we are the place where the best players go who really care about the NFL more than they do what courses they take or what future careers they want beyond football. They have sold that so well over time that almost every top athlete has to think twice about choosing another school. If I really am the best why would I not go where the best play football?

I would be in favor of evening that up somehow. Currently just leaving it to the market is not working. Did anyone notice this year that after you got past the top two teams there was a significant fall off in ability and once you got past the top six or so teams everyone else was mediocre to bad? One would almost have to go back to when the Ivy League was dominant to see a similar trend.

I'm just being sarcastic. Of course it's about developing kids. It's about using sports to build a community of alumni, and other stakeholders. The problem is that some universities have an unfair advantage simply because of their size and use that advantage to crush it's competition.

To those against revenue-sharing, it's already being done via TV contracts. The bowl system is about to collapse. Big time TV contracts will expire in a few years (ESPN can't do it in a world with streaming.) The structure of college football is ... changing.

I suppose the question is "Do we want a healthy college athletics industry" or "Are we ok with 5-6 superpowers and also rans for everyone else?"

I am against everything happening today. Kids not playing in bowls because of an NFL camp? Are you kidding me?

Just when I was getting a bit optimistic.......

If Alabama is the new "model" for Tech......:banghead:

I hope that what this article means is something different than @Animal02 and I thought when we read it.
I don't want to promise kids scholarships and take them away or ask them to enroll as a gray shirt and promise that maybe we'll give you one. I want to honor the legacy of Bobby Dodd on this - it's what makes Tech special. We offer a scholarship, we honor it.

Leadership will always define the "personality" characteristics of every organization from the top and throughout every hierarchical level of its organizational structure. You clearly see this manifesting regardless across all levels: top-down, laterally, skips. Strong, confident, positive, driven, passionate, compassionate, consistent and predicable leadership will morph an organization into its likeness and mold its "personality".

Reading it as a negative just shows a prejudice against Saban. What I took from that is being super organized, casting a wider net, being very energetic and cutting edge in getting to recruits and telling our story, you know, looking for those innovative ways to gain their attention and reel them. I thought that’s what we wanted?

I don't deny that I have a bias against Saban - well, just about factory football. Saban has created a huge dynasty and kudos to him for that. There are lots of positives at his program and I hope those are the ones we are bringing with us. However, I cannot hate the gray shirt program more, and I would be extremely disappointed to see us change our policy on scholarships.

I also admit I'm a little concerned about Suddes - only because Auburn has a reputation of taking the worst type of kids in their program. I'm always to proud of our players and the way they conduct themselves. (A really easy example of this was at the Miami game...they did the same thing to LSU and it turned into a all-out brawl, but at GT, we walked away from it and didn't engage.) I don't want thugs at our school.

Overall, I'm really excited. I was a huge CPJ fan, but that era is over, so I'm embracing the new change. I just don't want to see us sell out integrity for 5-star players. That's all I meant.

I get being concerned about some SEC practices but don’t worry because the school has ultimate control. I don’t think Collins or his staff have any intention of bringing in bad apples but if they did I beliebe TStan and the school would keep it from happening. That said if can learn from what AL, AU and others are doing to get the results they do in recruiting and employ the best ideas I hope we will see great results

Ironically, if you were to ask any of the schools above if they consider themselves to be a football factory, they would probably say "no". (I would support your list though.)

Alabama, as an example, has repeatedly stated that success on the football field has translated into ... significantly higher number of applications, more national merit finalists, more research dollars ... and the financial impact on the university makes the cost of a winning football team ... miniscule by comparison.

I would love to see ... state universities (like Alabama, Florida, etc) ... be limited to recruiting in their home state only. After all, as a land grant university, their mission is to education their citizenry. Require all SA's to have declared majors by the end of the first year and show measurable academic progress with a five year graduation rate. And finally, let Division 1 schools pool their vast revenues and distribute them equally so that the playing field can truly be leveled. The differences should be on what schools do in terms of coaching and development and not in terms of unmatchable financial advantages.

Every one of those schools is guilty of multiple NCAA infractions involving academic cheating of one kind or another, payments to players via bag men and the like and/or gifts such as cars, trucks etc. If I were KING of the college football world I would hit all of them with a death penalty that would make what happened to SMU look like a limp wrist slap. Then they can see what being Tulane is like for oh, let us be magnanimous a decade or so.

Good points but don't think for a minute that that stuff about "higher number of applications" etc. has any sway over how Coach Saban runs his program. As far as redistribution of the revenues to the have nots, it reminds me of the Marxist creed: "From each according to his ability to each according to his needs" So vespidae what are you some kind of Communist? (joke don't take it seriously)

In a way, any sports franchise needs to be somewhat socialist......it depends on all teams being somewhat equal. The franchise will fail without it, and teams cannot compete against themselves. That being said, I don't think sharing revenue is the answer, except for things like TV contracts....I don't think Bama should be getting 4.5 mil and Duke gets 2.75 for playing the same game. I do like the cap on expenditures.....max amount for all coaches, max amount for staff, etc etc.

How about we cap how often a team can go to playoffs.
Finals
1 times in 4 years.m
Invite
2 times in 8 years

Easy to enforce.

Would that do another thing that could help spread the talent ( help gt)?
These factories have easy degrees and great tutors. With the frequency cap perhaps a lot of factory and almost factory players would be ready to grad early. This could/ would have a ripple effect w other top schools to cause top talent backups to hit portal. For a good 4 star on factory getting buried 3 deep would be unacceptable. Great transfer would be an option to get seen.
