First I've heard Weinke speak. Love it.

Love the “danger” bit. “Just because our guy makes a great play doesn’t mean it was a great play by the QB”
Also good to hear that Jeff has solidified his spot early. We need him to play well and be a leader

Interesting about Gibson. Sounds like he likes to play jazz out there and Weinke wants him to stay on script more.

I’m more excited about the non-coach assistants like Chaney coming in. Say what you will about his role but that sort of experience at the college level designing and implementing a high level offense will be invaluable to our offensive staff.

Hope this is the right thread for this.

ESPN has been visiting each ACC school to observe practice, interview coaches and do an all around feel good story on the upcoming season. This week was the visit to Ga Tech.

Interesting that the three hosts / interviewers at one point talked about “the greatest transition in the history of college football.” I cringed as they repeated the same stale talking points that turned off so many Tech fans. When they got to “250-260 lb offensive linemen” and asked CGC about the transition he didn’t bite. He handled himself like a gentleman, said he appreciates all his student athletes and proceeded to come about as close as I’ve heard to discussing Xs and Os as well as what certain transfers will bring.

I had the strong impression he’s learned something. Let other people toot your horn for you, let them explain your obstacles and challenges, while you sound like a coach with an actual strategy and plan. Bravo, Geoffrey!

Everyone acknowledged that the obvious metric for progress is winning but also said the team showing progress in losses, hanging tough and not laying down and quitting was important.

I know that these are mostly fluff PR pieces for the ACC but it was enjoyable and encouraging nonetheless.

here is a picture from rivals. no so fat looking - cooper was huge but he could move till injuries took him.

Went to ND in 15 , both teams came out of tunnel post game to see parents and fans, they looked like giants.

We are growing our own.

After all the talk of fat people - i am on a diet (except game day) - not a pretty site in the mirror for me so it might explain why children flee me!

Especially liked the comment that the walk-on Fusile was competing for playing time based on he is 6’6”, 316lbs, tough, smart and strong.

I spent my time at Fan Day talking to three players, RB D Smith, Receiver Moore, and Oline Fusile. While I enjoyed and was impressed with all three discussions I was extremely taken with Fusile. And he is a lot better looking than those pictures. Very smart, focused, friendly, and came across as very mature and serious about his football. He seems to have the right build for the job and certainly came across as having the right mindset for a bright future, football or otherwise.

There is one thing that cannot be measured and that is DESIRE. He wants it. Got a good feeling about this young man.
Smart kid but EE not easy major along with FB. I think Ellis Gardner was an EE and had a very high GPA. It is possible. I had an EE class with WR Herman Lam back in the early 70's.

He captures the imagination and stokes pride among the Tech faithful in an engineering major who's an ACC All-American. A lot of Tech fans take pride in that, and discussions around the academic achievements of players are not uncommon.

I've lived in Athens for most of my life and have associated with many Georgia fans but cannot recall in a single instance any of them taking pride in, or indeed even making note of any of their accomplishments in the classroom. The only time they ever pay attention to academics is when someone flunks out and has to leave the team. The difference between the two attitudes is one major reason why I'm a Tech fan.

I don't really blame him for his stance on the Blackburn question. CGC has always been pretty silent on these matters to the point where he usually does not even mention player names. He probably would have preferred Kelly to ask a general question about injuries rather than singling out Blackburn

I give Collins credit for being nice about it. He said he understood why Kelly asked the question even though Kelly must know he can't answer it.

I agree with you 100%. But, I know some veterinarians and agriculture specialist that are top notch. I deal with them quite a bit.

No doubt. I'm not casting aspersions on the school - there are many accomplished graduates thereof.
But their fans have little to no interest in how their players fare in the classroom or whether they graduate as long as they remain eligible.
