He clearly will be a much better player in March than in November. The next few games will be important for him to get use to the speed and athletic ability at the college level.

All 3 freshmen looked, well like freshmen tonight.

The experienced guys all looked much better as one would expect. McCollum, O’Brien and Powell are clearly experienced players who are very nice additions to the team this season.

Good first game.
Yeah, he’s going to be really good. The kid is dripping with potential IMO. I just listened to the post game presser, and I do not recall Damon heaving that much praise onto anyone, much less a freshman.

Comments regarding Doryan:

“You are going to see a lot of him this year.”
“I really trust him as a freshman”
“Doryan has a chance to be special.”
“He has a mean streak in him and I like that”

He crushed the boards, both sides of the court. Huge effects using his length on any guards who dared approach the paint. 7 rebounds in 11 minutes of playing time. Yes he racked up 3 fouls but one was a phantom call and another was very soft. We don't need him to play 35 minutes and avoid 5 fouls - if he gives us 20, that's completely fine. I am excited at the possibility that Baye is gonna catch a breath and the falloff to his backup is not going to be as fatal as last year.

I agree. Both Doryan Onwuchekwa and Duncan Powell look like solid help inside. This could be a very good season.

I laughed pretty hard when Coach was giving Sutton hell about his jersey. Camera angle perfectly captured both of them laughing when the other turned away.

The only problem I saw was turnovers. I thought O'Brian had some good moments. Delighted to see the glass work.

Just an observation, Miss. St. had a crowd of over 9,000 for their home opener against West Georgia and GT only had 3,500. Of course that number is probably tickets sold, so there were actually significantly fewer than that in the building. Not sure of the size of miss state’s arena compared to McCamish. I’m sure probably bigger, but regardless, I hope GT can string together some early non-conference wins and drum up some fan support.

Your bet looks solid right now, but be wary of the temptation to strut. It's only one game. I more interested in which ghost writer LNJ has hired to write the blurb about how wrong he was. I can't see him writing it himself.
Really? Once again with the unnecessary and completely baseless assertion that I do not admit to my mistakes? There is not one time when I have not offered a mea culpa when I have been proven wrong. Your insistence to continue to post crap like this says more about your integrity, as well as your character, than mine. I would ask you to stop, but you lack the compunction to do so.

Crowd size was pathetic. Definitely < 3500 people. I'd be surprised if there was more than 1,000.

I apologize. I thought the entire thread was a light-hearted side show. I did not mean this to be taken seriously.

It's a similar size to McCamish. There are some similarities to Georgia Tech - similar student body size/alumni count, but I suspect most of their alumni stay close to home after graduating. They are a football-first school like we are also, but they were Top 25 last season and have made the NCAA Tournament 2 years in a row. But their attendance was decent even when they were bad. The biggest difference is they are in the middle of nowhere, so they have tons of sidewalk fans. Going to basketball games in the winter is simply the only option available for your entertainment dollars. People go to the games, the atmosphere is great, they have fun win or lose, and they return the next game. We're in a chicken+egg situation right now where the atmosphere in McCamish is atrocious, so people stay home - it's a fun experience for those of us on the board but we're an anomaly of rabid fans. Students have figured out during the Key era that they have fun at football games whether we win or lose, but they haven't collectively figured that out for the basketball student section.

I kind of felt bad for Luke. CU usually packs their events center. Of course it's a very big school and easy to get there and park so they do have that. Hopefully the GT fans will start coming out in droves.
