Me too kinda. Here’s a thought: We had what 4 OL make the All ACC this year? Yet, we couldn’t move the LOS in the RZ to save our lives. What does that scream?

We had an O that had ample firepower including a Heisman candidate QB, yet we insisted on screwing around in the first half and getting behind teams and it finally bit us hard. What does that scream?
Thank you. You are inferring what I’m implying.

Why are we losing coaches for lateral moves??? I get Buster to UF a little but Geep laterally to Nebraska is baffling!
Not totally lateral…Geep was the OL coach but let’s be real, cbk is and always will be the OL coach. He’s going to put more focus on that group than any other, which is great bc it’s the most important unit in the entire field imo. They will practice the way he wants, recruit the types of guys he wants etc.

Guys no. You are avoiding the elephant in the room. I cannot ever recall two assistants leaving for lateral positions in the ncaa the same year on the same side of the ball from gt ever. Heck. Its hard to find one who does that let alone 2. I know choice did it but the collins era is an asterisk

Something is up.

And frankly the “culture” key has talked about developing is getting tested. Because if philo also leaves we are getting to dumpster fire type offseason

Counterpoint: if you are not exactly wanted back, it’s most likely because something was going wrong. And if something is going wrong, it would be hard to move up a job.

But let’s say something was going on. Wouldn’t it be a good idea to clean up a little in house and try to rebuild the foundation?

100 percent agree.

But based on what i heard and limited statements over the year both with geep and buster key liked both of em alot. So i thought

Key wanted the team to take the jump, and to some extent we did. But he also knows we feasted on a weak schedule and lost focus toward the end of the year. To take the jump, you have to have hard conversations and assess everything. He did, and now we are seeing some of the fruits of those hard conversations. There will be more to follow I’m sure. This is why he wanted more salary for his staff. He isn’t hunting in the Dollar Tree anymore.

We can get bummed about this or we can see it for what it is: Key refusing to accept mediocrity and making the changes to get us over the hump. I, for one, am excited about it.
I’m sorry, but running Faulkner out and keeping Gideon seems the opposite of critical assessment. Especially after we gave Faulkner a contract extension and included buyout clauses six months ago, and he produced another Top 25 offense. I don’t think this theory holds water with regard to Faulkner.

Lots of speculation going on here. No facts to back up the speculation. I doubt we will ever really find out. CBK has been extremely complimentary of CGW at GT.

Both FL and NEB have far more football resources than GT has ever had. Lots of reasons assistant coaches leave. It's not like either went to G5 schools or schools that are poor, non traditional power football schools.

Who replaces them will be very interesting. Both CBF and CGW were good coaches during their time at GT and helped GT's offense go from awful to one of the better offenses in College Football.

I say thanks to both for helping GT football rise from the ashes! Good luck at FLA and Neb to them.

I personally think the OL underperformed significantly. I saw this not only in pass pro but in straight ahead run blocking. When we needed to move the LOS forward a couple of yards we couldn’t.
100%. 100%. I could not believe this OL was named a finalist for the Best OL in the country award. Haynes didn’t get sacked because he’s Haynes mf King, he was often running when pass pro broke down. We struggled to run against decent defenses. I thought this teams problem all season was a poor front 7 on defense with zero ability to generate qb pressure with the linemen and a subpar OL.

To your point, I think one thing we all have to give key credit for (even if leaving us fans wanting to know more) is keeping everything in house and keeping the house clean. We are having to speculate about things because, like you said, Key has done pretty much nothing but praise these guys.

Folks here seem to keep forgetting (or overlooking? or disregarding?) the fact that both Geep and Buster have not stayed very long at any one school where they coached prior to their recent arrivals at Georgia Tech.

Geep has coached offensive lines at 13 different schools in his 22-year coaching career to date. That’s an average of 1.69 years per school.

Similarly, Buster has coached as an offensive assistant or QB coach at 12 different schools in his 20 years to date — an average of 1.67 years per stop.

So … both have clear histories of jumping frequently from one employer to the next.

It’s just par for the course among most assistants in the football coaching profession.

Are we aiming for par based on pre nil portal data?
These 2 are highly praised LINE AUTHORITY staff. The players that came on ol and offense are here in big part becasuse of them.

Jan 2 comes soon - exit entry for players begins.

Likely these 2 have been recruiting players to stay and come.

How slowly can we go at replacing equal or better ?

What is your ide

Par would be equal replacement

I’m not losing any sleep because GT has the right people committed to keep a winning program. Faulkner and Wade aren’t going to stop that. The sky is not falling and even if Philo leaves the sky is not falling.

My personal opinion is our OLine was a major weakness this year which caused us a lot of issues. We had to use TE’s a lot which took a WR or RB off the field. And it changed our play calls, etc, etc. The season is over and I believe Key will find solid coaches and portal players.
