Big "if". There has been plenty of fear porn based on very limited info ...because it is clickbait. Much is either not yet proven or has now proven to be alarmist and untrue. Stories arise and then simply....disappear.....the media never comes back and writes a story aboput it being a "never mind" situation, they just move on to the next fear panic story.

Covid is nasty and it will be sometime before we fully understand it.
