Yup. Catch 22 with this.

On one hand, safety of the public is the highest priority. On the other hand, keeping the sanctity of the democratic process is also paramount.

Tough call to make all around. There's going to be a LOT of tough decisions to make in the coming weeks.

2) Second, and equally as important, anybody who has tested positive, thinks they might be positive, or was possibly exposed to someone with a virus was supposed to be self quarantining for at least 14 days. If they would’ve had test kits and confirmed a positive rating, the next step would’ve been exactly the same. sure, in the big picture, we need to have much more and better data. But in terms of where we stand right now and how we got here, I don’t see that that would’ve made a material difference.

To this second point, that seems like wishful thinking. You expect someone who "was possibly exposed" to self quarantine for 14 days? Someone maybe was in the same room as someone who traveled somewhere and now you expect them to self quarantine, take unpaid time off work or eat into their PTO, all on a maybe possibility they were exposed? Sure that'd be nice but that seems wildly naïve. Especially in a country where many don't have paid sick time and don't have much savings. Because the testing is not readily available and difficult to attain that person is much more likely to shrug it off and say, "Nah, I'm probably fine. I feel fine." If the tests were more readily available, like in S. Korea where they set up drive thru tests, they could know for certain. That is the difference between a PROACTIVE response and REACTIVE response.

That’s what the health professionals have said from the beginning yes. “Possibly exposed” doesn’t mean you traveled, it means you came into contact with someone who is sick. If people are breaking the quarantine, which we know that they are, there is not much we can do.

It’s like that lawyer in New York City – he was sick for over a month, did not tell anybody, did not self Quarantine, went to church, grocery store, etc, for a month and only finally went to the hospital when he became gravely ill. There’s not much you can do about stupid inconsiderate people like that other than a military force quarantine. And even that would’ve not worked in this case, because he told nobody that he was sick, So they wouldn’t have known to quarantine him.

Also, we can’t test like that and won’t have that capability anytime soon. Probably not even after the dust settles from this pandemic either. There’s nothing you or I or anybody else can easily do to change that.

Also, "The President did not cause mass hysteria early on in the spreading of the corona virus, so he was not taking the corona virus seriously." Does that pretty much sum it up?

My only surprise is that it didn’t happen any sooner. They’ve been showing pictures on the news for a couple weeks of 90% empty airplanes. These are the sad and real world ramifications of what we are going through. Laid off airline pilots, flight attendants, maintenance workers, and all of the places that those people then regularly spend their money. It’s also why I am still in credulous about the notion of the financial aid package being the illumination of payroll taxes for a certain amount of time. People who are working may need financial help, but not nearly as much as the people who have been laid off from all this. I am still hoping we plateau in 3-4 weeks, and once we start coming back down things gradually return to normal. No doubt it could take months to completely get back to normal, but I’m still holding out hope for that.

IF (and I consider this doubtful) my June trip to Europe is not cancelled by the tour operator, I sure hope there are still a lot of vacant seats on the planes, because then I could almost be assured of getting an upgrade to first class.

The one thing that has not been mentioned about the sports thing is how it affects those on here, and all others, who partake in sports betting. Most of the casinos have opened sports betting lounges that are now useless. I mentioned to my husband that there were going to be a lot of new Nascar fans but that's kaput now.
