I am not 100% certain of this, but I believe I heard or read that ND was not joining a conference as long as there is a path to the playoff. They very much have a path now.

To HELL with ND. When does the stupid contract between the ACC and ND transpire? Do NOT renew it and just wait and see how they can find playing partners to schedule eight games with in today's climate.

It's not about ND. It's about screwing over the #1 team with some stupid rules.
No one is getting screwed. No one know much about the playoffs except Georgia is better than Texas as they played twice and Texas lost both. The rest is simply opinions less the 4 Conference Champions who got there winning their Conferences. On field matters more them perception or some silly statistical model that says X is better than Y even though there is no real commonality in who they played during the season.

Hypothetical which was pretty close to happening this year.

Oregon goes 12-0 (let's assume that was GT). ND goes 12-0 (would have without the head scratching loss to NIU). We get stuck with ND in the our bracket because they can only be the #5 seed. The #4 and #6 seeds are significantly weaker. We are whining all to high heaven about how much the NCAA and everyone screws GT. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it.

Just seed them based on rankings. Let the conference champs host if they aren't top 4.

1 - Oregon vs 8/9 Indiana/Boise - Boise hosts instead of Indiana as a top 4 conference champ
2 - Georgia vs 7/10 Tenn/SMU - Tennessee hosts
3 - Texas vs 6/11 Ohio St/Arizona St - ASU hosts as a conference champ
4 - Penn St vs 5/12 ND/Clemson - ND hosts because Clemson is NOT a top 4 conference champ. If we want Clemson to host as a conference champ, I don't care go for it.

But this bracket is way more balanced and fair. And it has nothing to do with ND being independent or the SEC or the Big Ten or any of those advantages we cry about.

Yep, they’ve never even been close to budging on their “no conference” stance. But I’m sure they evaluate their situation all the time. The ACC made it much easier for them to remain independent since scheduling would be difficult in the long run without a conference tie in.

I like the idea of letting conference champs host in a 16 team format with no byes.
If there are still 12 teams, and top four BY RANKING get byes, there will be zero incentive for any top 4 team to participate in CCG.

We go 12-0 and beat Georgia, I guarantee we get a top 2 seed.

Why is Texas #3? They won the Beauty contest. Their record is not worthy of #3 any more than Boise St or AZ State!

I responded to both of your comments, both Oregon and ND. Until there is a more even approach to the rankings, I want each conference to have a bye, at least the top 4. To be honest, I think Clemson would dismantle both Boise State and ASU. We may get that chance. I’m expecting Texas to fold, then Oregon will face the #12 team; we’ll see.

We'd be #1. My point is if Notre Dame was 12-0 and clearly the second best team, they end up on the same side of the bracket as us. And all the ASU and Boise's getting byes would mean our 8/9 would really be 6th and 7th best teams. It's stupid.
Gonna have to beat them anyway. No system is perfect. Using rankings is dumb because the rankings are biased. No need to give another advantage to SEC and B1G or ND.

The contract actually helps our strength of schedule, improves our TV ratings, but we got to beat ND.

Seed them based on a won/lost formula such as:
W-L/No. of Games = Rating
W = A+B+C
A. Beat top 10 team: 5 pts
B. Beat top 25 team: 3 pts
C. Beat other team: 1 pt

L = D+E+F
D. Lose to top 10 team: 1 pt
E. Lose to top 25 team: 3 pts
F. Lose to other team: 5 pts

For GA Tech this year, that’s:
W = 5+1+1+1+1+5+1 = 15
L = 5+3+3+5+1 = 17

Rating = (15-17)/12 = .167

This doesn’t take into account the fact that the top 25 is totally arbitrary and not based on anything tangible. There’s no real discernible difference between the teams ranked 9th and 11th. Or 24th and 31st. I think the entire “top 25” rankings system should go away if we’re going to have a playoff. Every conference champ should be in, giving every single team in the country a path to the national championship. Then however many at large bids you want to shove in there go ahead. If the SEC and B1G are so much better than everyone else, make them beat the MAC winner. I don’t care if it’s a blowout, you shouldn’t just automatically disqualify half the teams in the league from competing for the championship based on a hypothetical of what people think would happen. Prove it on the field, just like all the #1 seeds in March Madness have to do against the #16 seeds.

Obviously that’s a pipe dream and never going to happen, but anybody advocating for a system that doesn’t at least include the winner of every conference doesn’t actually care about having a “real” champion. They just want to see the biggest brands play games against each other. Just let the Dodgers/Yankees and Lakers/Celtics play for the title every year.

Hey guys, most of you are Georgia Tech grads and the rest are pretty smart folks I'm sure. So I'm sure if you do not understand how the Notre Dame-ACC contract is one-sided then I have no f*****g idea how to splain it to you. That's all folks.

Don't lose sight of the fact that this arrangement has ND as a full conference participant in all other sports which benefits the ACC greatly.
