Yeah, we got burned pretty badly there, mostly by Collier. Those trips ate up a lot of our recruiting budget and the organization was actively shopping Welschof well after he committed to GT. Seems Collier has a better relationship with Collins, but I still don't trust him enough to not push his players towards Notre Dame and Penn State over us. Darkwa would be a good sign.Very interesting to know that Coach Paul Johnson also recruited the European scene last year, as the article states.
You know, I wonder, how exactly does Brandon Collier make his living (i.e., his money) doing this thing in Europe? And who are the folks that are paying him?
It also makes me wonder if any fishy smells are emanating from Mr. Collier, enough to attract NCAA attention? I don’t know, just speculating here.

It's really nice to see the emphasis that Geoff Collins and his coaching staff have on recruiting.I am just blown away by our new emphasis on recruiting. It puts Tech football in the spotlight more- in a good way-each day. RELENTLESS !!
Welschof didn't do anything other recruits haven't done to GT...or other schools (See: Trey Flower, C-Bo Flemister, Tre Jackson). Sometimes kids get a good offer and commit, and a "better" offer comes along. Unfortunately, Michigan was viewed as the "better" offer. It's up to CGC now to make GT the "better" offer.
You can say what you want about Collier, but his job is to maximize the opportunities of the guys he's looking after.
I don't see GT fans getting on kids we steal from Western Kentucky and Tulane at the last minute.
We need to understand why this is happening and fix the problems. Some are not changeable/fixable, ie we have an urban campus or our academic load, but others are ie better locker room. Fix what we can, mitigate the others, etc just like you would if it was your business. Nobody has a perfect product at a perfect price and able to market it perfectly. That pack of vultures at Notre Dame just follows us around, lets us find late talent, and then swoops in. Just another reason for me to hate them.
The way I understand it, Premier Players International was pushing for Welschof to go to Michigan more so for their own benefit, not Welschof's. They wanted to boost the reputation of their own service by getting him to go to one of the blue bloods rather than letting him go to GT. It's a different situation than most recruits because these Europeans essentially have agents doing most of the work for them. Welschof was free to choose whoever he wanted, but supposedly CPJ felt like he was misled by PPI and that led to a falling out. Again, it sounds like Collins has a much better relationship with Collier, so we shouldn't expect the service to be telling our commits to use us as placeholders any longer.Welschof didn't do anything other recruits haven't done to GT...or other schools (See: Trey Flower, C-Bo Flemister, Tre Jackson). Well, I’be been a GT football fan for over five decades, and the annual football recruiting at The Flats has always centered around the average to slightly above average range. Generally speaking and across all football positions collectively across the board on an annual basis, nothing has been really poor and nothing has been really outstanding.
On the subject of football recruiting at Georgia Tech, I believe former coach George O’Leary summarized it best: “We will win with or without you.”
(Note: when O’Leary made this statement, it was about 20-25 years ago. O’Leary served as head coach from 1994 to 2001.)
We actually haven’t been average for a while if you go by the rankings. They rank 100+ classes but our competition is the P5 or 65 teams. To be average in that group one would think we should be in the 30s which we haven’t done in a while. Not to say we don’t have good athlete, just that the rankings don’t show it.Well, I’be been a GT football fan for over five decades, and the annual football recruiting at The Flats has always centered around the average to slightly above average range.
