I think the auto bids will stay. However... seeding will be (& should be) by ranking. No more byes to top 4 conference champs. Byes go to top 4 teams.
I like the conference champions getting byes as it makes the championship more meaningful. Plus, as we are finding out, comparing conferences strengths to each other is too much of a subjective argument. Using just the "top four" gives the committee even more control to push their bias on the rankings and ensure the B10 and SECheat get the most favorable matchups.

Oooof. I guess he’s trying. Sorta? Maybe there’s a longer version where he corrects himself? Is this a media hack job?

We have seen Clemson vs u(sic)ga. It was ugly! I guess that means the ACC winner ( if Clemson wins) should be left out.
That's funny but dumb! If you think Army, Miami Ohio / Ohio or the Sunbelt Champ (or any Gx Champ that I forgot) has a real chance in the playoffs then you are being delusional. Go to 24 teams then this could work. No way with 12 teams!

If the committee were not biased, I'd agree with this. Clearly, moving Alabama (9-3) to 11 ahead of Miami (10-2) at 12 when there is an automatic qualifier sitting outside the Top12 was an obvious SEC bias move to make sure Alabama wouldn't be sitting at 12 and automatically out, whcih negates any honesty from the committee and shows a clear lack of integrity. So, no. The Top 4 conference champions should get the bye, not the Top4 in the ranking.

No one wants to see lower conferences champions get smashed like Army (the AAC Champion) did vs ND 49-14. This setup will never happen and should never happen. It is bad TV and proves nothing!
People do want to see lower conference champions beat teams from the big conferences though. And there’s history of that happening when the opportunity is there.

Yea in the first weekend of the NCAAT Basketball. Not going to happen in the CFO except possibly for teams like Boise State or SMU who are still viewed as “mid majors.”

A sunbelt champ could if they had some upsets they typically play good p4 teams OOC. hell southern played boise and almost won this year except they had jeanty and if they had and beat Ole Miss then went on a tear through the sunbelt they could very well make it. ITs really about schedule make up.

SMU will not make the playoff in my opinion if they lose but I do hope Clemson wins just to make the $EC/E$PN show their hand once again.
Likely true, when Miami soiled the bed, they all but ruined it for the ACC to have two in the CFP.

If not for the money distribution to the conferences the top ranked B1G team might rather play more lower tier champs than second and third place teams.

The money screwed it up because it adds too much incentive to lobby for third and fourth place teams who had plenty of chances.

Why does it help UT or UGA on the field for Bama to get in?

The ability of college football to implement good changes in the worst possible way is unmatched.

Sad to say but the ACC has always been a joke at the top, they select weak "goofs" they (tb road maffia) can control. Pitiful conference that we are stuck in. It will eventually be a dead end for all that want to have something IMO.

What a joke/scam the playoffs are quickly becoming, watching the refereeing in the Big 12 game and again it appears the conference offices are dictating the outcomes, at least that is the way I see it. I will watch the playoffs the rest of this season but if this continues I see myself getting completely turned off to CFB. I will quit watching I'm guessing, this sort of stuff is a real turnoff for me.
