Acc in both football and basketball is a junior league now unfortunately. But. They did it to themselves. Acc is and will be treated as such. 1 team in the playoffs only out of obligation. If clemson wins and the acc did not have the tie in; they would probably not get one team in

I predict the playoff format changes. The powers at be will want the best 12; regardless of where; and if that leaves a conf out so be it. Acc is and will continue to be a joke.

Ultimately. Gt needs to do everything they can to position to leave as soon as the contract allows.

Just my honest and brutal and probably unfair opinion

Also settled, according to SEC and ESPN, when Georgia pulled off their spectacular, miraculous, major comeback, historic upset victory over Tech.
Honestly, if Georgia had lost to us, they would be sitting right next to Alabama in the rankings (10 or 11, in front of Miami) and when they beat Texas for a second time, there would have been a push that 3-loss Ole Miss really deserved to be the fifth SEC team because even the SEC champ has three losses in this gauntlet of a conference.

SMU will not make the playoff in my opinion if they lose but I do hope Clemson wins just to make the $EC/E$PN show their hand once again.
This is why I want Clemson to win as well. Force the committee to say (without a doubt)... they will penalize a 10-2 team who plays an extra game (conference championship) & reward another team sitting at home because they couldn't qualify for their conference championship.

Meanwhile... poor ARMY. Nobody advocating for them... conference champ. 11-1... only loss to top 5 team securely in the field (ND).

IN A PERFECT WORLD... Army beats Alabama or Ole Miss in NY6 bowl!! Can that happen... please.

Lol... ETA. I guess all NY6 bowls are now tied up with playoffs.

Where I 100% agree with you is that the exclusion of “deserving” teams this year will spark a change to exclude some auto bids in favor of a “top 12.” ACC will support it, because we certainly have excluded deserving teams, and the following year the “top12” will exclude the ACC Champ. :D

I think the auto bids will stay. However... seeding will be (& should be) by ranking. No more byes to top 4 conference champs. Byes go to top 4 teams.

My questions.

Has Texas gotten over their fear of uga after they controlled the A&M game at College Station? Will Georgia relax and let down thinking they are now a lock for a playoff run for another championship or does the outside chance of being left out spur their best game of the season?

Will Clemson play for pride and trounce SMU? Or are they done for the year after a disappointing season?

Will Oregon play their A Game or will they substitute heavily, accept a loss, and save up for a title run? Could this be the worst played game of the day since both teams are a lock for the playoffs?

Lots of strange conflicting emotions driving the games today.

I still don't understand how College football is the only sport that a conference/division champ is not automatically in the playoffs. Even if a 13-20 college basketball team wins their conf tourney, they are into the tournament and no one really cares.

This next part is my opinion and the only reason it will never happen is because of money.

To "fix" the playoffs, have only the FBS conference champs make the playoff with the 2/4 lowest ranked champs have a play in game to get to 8 teams. If a team that did not win their conf feels slighted cuz a team from the sunbelt is in and your not, well to bad, win you conference. if you think this is unfair, move to another conference from say the sec to the Sunbelt or AAC or whatever and just absolutely dominate and get into the playoffs easily. this might actually make conference small again and not try to shoehorn all the "best" teams into one or 2 conferences. Of course with TV deals, teams will not want to go to a lesser conference and lose out on the tv money. of course, if the ncaa was smart back in the day, they would have done the TV deals for all of CFB and this might have kept all these from happening but not sure if the ncaa could have legally done this. Either way, none of this will happen cuz of money

I think a Clemson win will tell us a lot.
If SMU is punished for a loss to a top 20 team in a conf champ game when idle teams with more losses are “locks,” it’s going to raise the question of holding conference championships at all. I think the committee needs to be careful here.
Honestly what I see happening is a 16 team field with no conference champ games and no byes. I bet somehow they will protect a top G5 team (just one) ranked in the top 20. That will be the only “bid stealer” from the 16th ranked team.

Agree that an emphasis on conference champions getting in would probably dilute the top heavy conferences and spread the wealth. Also agree it will never happen because money talks and ____ walks.

No one wants to see lower conferences champions get smashed like Army (the AAC Champion) did vs ND 49-14. This setup will never happen and should never happen. It is bad TV and proves nothing!

I spoke to an Alabama fan last night (that’s the 2nd one, BTW, along with an OU fan) who reiterated that we were jobbed by the refs, and that SMU should be in regardless. This season is pulling the curtain back some… except for a few GT fans who insist it was all “normal” human error, along with dwag fans.
And these GT fans who insist it was "normal" help ensure that we will always be treated like vassals of the $EC/E$PN/TV networks and the dwags. They have no effing clue.
We know who wears the pants in their homes. :)

i dont wnat to see a team that lost 3 games to bad teams in the playoffs either. I want to see teams that actually won their games be there. you already had blow outs in a 4 team playoff so who the hell cares. the way this is going to be in the future you already eliminate 90% of the teams before the season starts and that sucks.
