It’s late, and I should be in bed but I was looking everywhere for a thread celebrating the SEC being left out again from the finals. Didn’t see one so here it is.

How do you feel about this? Was the SEC cheated out of their rightful place as Sankey suggested previously? Nah, that’s not a serious question. Is this, along with NIL, the end of SEC hegemony? On a scale of 1-10 how satisfied are you with a final pairing sans the SEC?

Good that there's no SEC in the final, but personally I detest (the) Ohio State.

In my sports news feed, two interesting commentaries were developing last night. One was that now that paying athletes is legal, the B1G could dominate since, other than Texas and Texas A&M, their pockets are much deeper than any teams in the SEC. The other line, promoted by SEC writers, was that after Ohio State wins the national championship their coach should get hired by an SEC team.

In my opinion the CFP is a resounding success and I like the 12 team format. That being said, the playoff will increase to 14 or 16 teams. The question is if expands, will they include more automatic qualifiers for the crap conferences (ie MW, AAC, MAC, Conf USA).

I’m more curious what people think will happen - not what they would like to see happen.

For example, I think you’re going to see a strong push by the SEC/Sankey to increase the format to 14 teams with two more at-large bids. This year that most likely have been Bama and either Ole Miss or USCe; however, I think you could get the SEC/Big10 to agree to 16 teams with auto qualifiers for MW, AAC, MAC and Conf USA. Those AQ schools would be cannon fodder for the first round, on-campus games of the top 4 seeds (ie SEC and Big10 schools). I think the SEC/Big10 would acknowledge it would have been better for both UGA and Oregon to have a warm-up game this year.

Yep. This year it would have been probably Oregon and Georgia. Most people would have said they got it right. Never have trusted the media.
It’s always to me been a chicken and egg thing with me between the media and the public. They sell a certain line but it’s one the public easily buys or wants to believe.

Not all media, of course 😊.

Anyway, the SEC “dominates” talk is dying right before our eyes. Even some younger recruits don’t seem to be buying it as much. I saw a trial run of a new talking point last night with a headline that said, “Get Used to Cold Weather Teams Dominating.” If that spin catches on I’ll want Tech in the B1G even more.

I’m sensing that some of the influencers in these decisions are telling Sankey to take a chill pill. My guess is they let the current format play out for a few years. The SEC had their chance to prove they deserved more teams in the playoffs and they failed. No doubt Sankey will keep lobbying hard but the narrative is slipping out of his control, praise be.

We can only hope. However, since the 9-12 seeds all lost pretty badly, look for SECheat/B1G to put a *major* push on next year for more teams.

We are in a catch-22 situation. If ND wins, it bolsters the case of non-P2 conferences. However, it also bolsters their case for not joining a conference.
