So if I am reading this bracket correctly, 1 single Pac-12 team made it into the NCAA Tournament. 2 others (UCLA, Arizona State) made play-in games for the right to make the tournament. UCLA just lost. Arizona State plays Syracuse tonight. So at most, the entire Pac-12 will have 2 teams in the tournament, but may well end up with 1 single team. That is a massive amount of money they are missing out on. I think each game a team plays in sends $1.7M or something back to the conference (paid out over 6 years).

So the ACC has 9 teams. The Pac-12 will have 1 or 2. The ACC could make literally 5-10x as much money. That could be like $40M compared to $5M for the ACC versus the Pac-12. Wow.
The participants in the first four games earn the $1.7M NCAA tournament units as well.

Last year's NIT had the lower seed win 9/16 first round games (including us). If you remember we played an 8 seed in the semis. This year the higher seeds are already 12-0. Just thought it was interesting.

So Tech made ~120K tonight from Cuse winning?
Yep. First, GT made ~120K simply by Cuse playing in tonight's game. Now we'll earn another ~120K by virtue of them playing TCU on Friday.

We got ~120K x 9 to start the tournament, by virtue of 9 ACC team participating. Now the ACC is up to 10 units.

Public enemy number 1? The Davidson Wildcats. They cost us 120K by knocking out ND.

PAC-12 gets at minimum 1 regular game plus 2 play-ins. They lost both play-ins, LOL. 3 games = $5.1M paid out to its teams over 6 years.

ACC has 11 games at minimum since Syracuse won. That’s $18.7M.

If 2/3rds win (only 1 or 2 will be the lower seed), that’s another 7 games in round 2 = $11.9M.

If 4 of the 10 teams make the Sweet 16, that’s another $6.8M.

2 in the Elite 8 = $3.4M more.

1 all the way to the Finals is 2 more games = $3.4M.

That’s $44.2M and that’s based on most games going by seed, so not a stretch.

If PAC-12s only team left makes the Elite 8, they’ll make $10.2M.

So the ACC is likely to make about $35M more than the PAC-12 this year. Wow.
