Per Anthopoulos:

“If our best team is with Austin Riley in the outfield and Josh Donaldson at third base, and that makes sense, we’ll do that. … There’s clearly room for both guys; we can see a team with both guys. Problem is, one guy’s a free agent. And I expect the market for him to be strong because of the year that he’s had and what he’s done.”

Buzz, I'd say, PAY HIM ! ... we'd be in a world of hurt without him and I'd make him a keeper.

This sounds like Braves GM wants to go a different direction at 3B. So... not interested in paying top free agent $$ at that position. Of course... GM's say a lot of things, don't they. :)

Luiz Gohara signed by LA Angels. Camargo has had 6 doubles, a HR at Gwinnett.

Braves expected to call up several players off the 40 man roster on Sunday. Houston doesn’t want to call up hardly any, for fear of disruption of chemistry. Tampa Bay, the more the merrier. Here are Atlanta potentials:
  • PITCHERS: Minter, Sobotka, Toussaint, Walker, Weigel, Wilson, Wright, Ynoa
  • CATCHERS: Jackson
  • INFIELDERS: Camargo(he’s hit .521 since being sent down; “5” 3-hit games)
  • OUTFIELDERS: Duvall
Here’s the “10-day” injured players on the 40-man list (4):
  • CATCHERS: McCann
  • OUTFIELDERS: Inciarte, Markakis, Riley
The one additional player who could conceivably make the leap from minor league rehab to the majors is Darren O’Day

Great list(y) I agree with you that they could possibly be called up:cool:

So ..... if I read the tea leaves correctly ... in my own warped mind ....................... we're signing Rendon. Boom.

expanded roster? How many for rest of season?
We can call up 15, if Snitker wants to House them all in the dugout. Alex Jackson is a definite. Fairly certain Camargo, Duvall, Minter, Sobotka are added. They will want a long man such as Touki or ? The IL players as they come back from injury. Riley is next.

O’Day had a decent outing, and the talk I hear is that someone like Swarzak or Blevins(who probably are not in the plans for next year, would have to be taken off the 40-man and subject to be claimed)could be put through conditional waivers to make room for him to be added. Could be wrong on that. Might try to run Sobotka through and gamble(or Ynoa). Don’t see the risking Weigel, Walker, Wilson or Wright.

Hello Fred;
Tough football game last night, sad to say. My condolences to all of us, especially if any of you took Tech and the points.
Can you give us an idea of who you think will be the Washington call-ups on Sunday?

Yep. I'll reserve judgment on Jackets football, until we play a different opponent at a different location.

This (below) is as good as I can get.. to answer your question. None of these guys will see any significant action... IMO. However, it is nice to PH early if necessary & not burn a more productive guy you may need in a more critical AB later in games. Not listed is catcher, Spencer Kieboom... a Clemson product & older brother to Carter. The Nats did themselves no favors on handling him this week. Hunter Strickland should return from "baby leave" tonight. Nats had recalled Kieboom to fill that roster spot. Never played. Just re-assigned him to Harrisburg. The catch... he can't come back for 10 days. Probably not too significant, but a 3rd catcher is probably most critical "add" in Sept & Nats set themselves up to miss the guy they want for a week...unnecessarily.

Nationals eye reinforcements when rosters expand to 40 (Washington Times)
Expect Greg Holland, Aaron Barrett, Wil Crowe, Carter Kieboom, Wilmer Difo, Jake Noll, and Raudy Read to get a shot at the majors, as will Michael A. [Taylor] and Andrew Stevenson in all likelihood.

Great write up, and many thanks, Fred!

Sitting in Kinsmore Stadium and awaiting Clems’ son to give us a security briefing yesterday afternoon....We discussed former Tiger and Jacket baseball terrors, and I brought up the Kieboom Family(Randy Carroll always loved them). Seems like my admiration for them was not shared by one of my colleagues, although if you don’t do well in the Pro. Game-he doesn’t differentiate from Collegiate Ball.
Taylor has some pop, as he can actually drive the ball if he can make more consistent contact. Not just a speed merchant. He can be of help to you, as you’ve mentioned. If only for not burning a late game pinch-hitter. Give a day off or come in with a big lead to rest Robles, Soto. Has experience. I like Greg Holland, too.

Very good point. I sleep on Taylor a little bit. He was money 2 seasons ago in post-season for Nationals. If that guy comes back... will be nice piece/addition. Especially if he can do it in pinch hitting role.
