I don't like Joe Simpson much after he said last night that the fans shouldn't get to vote on the MLB All Star teams:mad:
Meh. I think that plays into the old school mentality. He wants it to be less of a popularity contest and more based on merit which I’m fine with. However, with our young team, more fans are voting for our young stars which really helps, not that they aren’t deserving because they are. And when the all star game is here in a couple years, I think the fan votes are really going to help.

Frenchy has really grown on me. I love when he and Glavine call the games.
Their insight is good, but (I, probably like you) grew up listening to skip, Pete, don and joe and I just love the old school insight they provide(d). Frenchy makes me laugh when he busts on BMac for everything given their friendship. Aka after BMac hits a bomb and frenchy says, “here comes the most exciting 2 minutes in baseball” as BMac rounds the bases. Glav is very dry, but he obviously knows his stuff. If we could’ve kept any ex players I wish it would’ve been Smoltz. That guy is great, which is why he has the gig he does now. Chipper is good too, but I’d prefer him as a hitting coach over an announcer! Too bad we probably won’t get either

Reading the articles from wapo and the nats boards, this is going to be a demoralizing series loss if Soroka can pitch us to a win tomorrow. Time to keep our foot down on the rest of the east, something I didn’t think was possible at this point given our pen earlier this year. But just like last year when Acuna was brought up, we have gone on a tear since Riley came up. It has been a shot in the arm for the whole team. Don’t get me wrong, the pen is still a problem, but if we can get Newk healthy, and possibly put gausman, Folty and touki where they should be, we will be dangerous.

I love the national exposure and all, but the Sunday night Espn crew and this B team fox crew are tough to listen to. I just can’t get on board with the analytics, spin rate, exit velo crap that gets shoved down our throats all the time these days. If I had my choice, chip and joe would call every game. No offense to Frenchy and Glav, but I like the old school calls and the real insight that comes along with it. Rant over. Cmon Luke!
No joke, thinngs like war, whip and ops provide about the same info toward player performance as "the price of eggs in china"

8-1 Mike Siroka starts for the 45-32 1st place in the NL East Braves today in the last game of the 3 game series between the Braves and Nationals while 0-0 Joe Voth will be making his first start for the 37-39 3rd place in the NL East Nationals since being called up from Triple A Fresno.

The Braves have optioned Foltynewicz and recalled reliever Chad Sobotka,(good move).
With Foltynewicz heading to Gwinnett for now, he’ll stop accruing big league service time. Having racked up 87 days of service this year, he’s at four years and 78 days for his career. As things stand, Foltynewicz is on track to reach free agency after the 2021 season. He’s on a somewhat pricey $5.48MM salary at the moment, making his demotion all the more notable.

Damn good news,Buzzbomb!:D:cigar:(y) I think the Braves will try to trade Foltynewicz for what they can get for him or outright release him if nobody wants him:cigar:

They had to do something. He’s been awful since coming back from injury. I don’t know if he’s still hurt but his demeanor on the mound sucks.

Fans don’t do a good job voting, if you’re looking for which players are having the biggest impact or best seasons. It’s gotten better, but a lot of the votes are “who have you seen on TV the most” or “which club has the best attendance lately” or “who was really good three years ago” or “who was in the All Star game last year”.

Funny thing is, other players, coaches, and journalists don’t do a lot better. They don’t have time to see much aside from their team and some of the teams they see frequently.

If you could count on them to be unbiased, the scouts who write the scouting reports would probably be the best, regardless of sport.

Last year, he didn’t let small things upset him. Last night after a throw over to first that had a little dirt on the ball, the home umpire asked him for an exchange. He aggressively tossed it towards the dugout and stared him down. Letting/Allowing calls to bother him, like he did a few years ago. I still think if they straighten his head out, he would make a fine closer. And 4 million $ cheaper than set-up man D. O’Day.
