I said the same last season
From the schools perspective, they want students to be fully transferred by the time the semester starts, I get that

However the way I see it is that the NCAA and Universities haven't figured out how to work with the portal on scheduling.

Either we need to start the season sooner or shorten it, so bowls and championships end at at a reasonable time for student athletes to transfer in

It's really a shame because so many teams are going to be missing key players for bowls or championships due to the portal

My thought is, push the portal out to spring semester

I like Clemson, Pitt, Cuse, Lville, and Tech of course

I think SMU and Cal have a good chance to pull “upsets”

I expect Miami and UNC will both crap the bed and I fear Duke is simply outmanned.

VT, NCSt and BC look like a coin flip to me…

Id expect 3/4 of these predictions to be gutted by the portal in 3…2…1…

If Duke is without their starting quarterback any little chance they had, which was already slim and none, is gone. Could be the biggest beat down in bowls or playoffs this year. Unless a bunch of Ole Miss starters go to the portal.

With the portal the bowls are quickly becoming irrelevant with so many players either taking off for NFL training or going into the portal. The teams are simply not the same teams that played during the season.

The only real benefit at this point is getting the extra practice weeks for whoever is staying.

I’ve wondered about this. I like the coach’s attitude but at what point would a team plunking down $2 million say to a player, if you sign with us we’re not going to let you play for your current team in a bowl and get hurt? And when would a player take himself out of a game to avoid injury? Didn’t Gibbs do that?

Again, I love this coach’s approach but not sure it will always work.

Yeah, too bad that programs have to deal with this inconvenience called "school".

I agree that scheduling could be improved. But I don't see how it's practical to squeeze a football schedule with bowls included into a time frame that would also allow students to start at a new school before the semester begins.

For CFP participants, I’m not sure you have much choice! If you’re actually playing for something, you have to put your best team on the field, even if they won’t be part of your team next year.
Internet rumors accuse Kiffin of buying away his opponents’ players… Wonder how soon that tactic makes it to a playoff matchup?

Which seems pretty smart to me. 8-9 wins every year ought to be the floor.

If getting to the conference championship game and/or a bowl are the goals at the beginning of the season, then why play a tough OOC schedule?

We have this discussion every year. Fans on one side of the argument hate wasting their time watching us beat up on cupcakes and would rather schedule more marque opponents. Fans on the other side point to Duke’s record and say they have a much easier time having a good record and going to better bowls.

I’m somewhere in the middle, and as long as we are playing uga as one of our 4 OOC games, we automatically have a tougher-than-average schedule. Back when Clemson was our permanent crossover rival and we struggled to win 3 games, I argued for an easier OOC schedule since we perennially had the hardest in the conference. Now it is not as bad, although the luck of the draw still factors in, like this year having uga and ND as half of our OOC schedule.

Bottom line we have limited options for OOC but teams like Colorado make sense – good visibility for us but not as likely for us to be a 3-score dog.
