Then let the NFL provide a minor league and let the kids who think they are worth it go for it. I don't see the baseball players complaining....many if not most passed on the minors
You also don't see the best players playing college baseball.

You realize there are rules stopping this, right? The NCAA limits how much student athletes can earn in an academic year of private employment ($2,000)
What he is saying, if you don't think a free education is worth what you bring to the table, quit school and go get a job. See how that works out.

it does say 2013-2014, so 2015 bowl season is probably not included

per team with those numbers:
$31.07 million - SEC
$25.20 million - Big 12
$21.57 million - ACC*
$21.17 million - PAC 12

* used 14 teams, since ND is not a full member, and because I am biased ;)
And yet, they are included for the SEC, because the comparison is this years SEC vs last years ACC.

For the sake of comparisons, here is how the conference revenue share numbers stack up so far for the most recent year (Big Ten data is pending);

1. $435 million – SEC

2. $302 million – ACC

3. $254 million – Pac-12 (source)

4. $252 million – Big 12

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/12/accs-record-revenue-surpasses-300-million/

Not to be a jerk but the SEC did not make 435 Million in 2013-14....

They made 309.6M in 2013-14..... the 435 is for 2014-15... The ACC has not released those numbers yet

That might be why there isn't quite the outcry for baseball players to be paid - most of the best ones already are. The same can't be said for football.
Which goes back to my previous post. Those playing in college choose to be scholar athletes. If football players don't want to be in school, then let the NFL handle them on their own, and leave universities to those that want an education as well.

Okay, but there's a rule that the NFL has in place that requires a player to be three years removed from high school to play. The baseball players - which you brought up - have a choice. Football players don't.

For the life of me, I don't understand why anyone cares if these guys get a little cash.

For the life of me, I don't understand why some people feel the student athletes are entitled to salaries in addition to the valuable scholarships they are awarded.

I don't think they're entitled to anything except to get paid what they're worth. If they're able to get more, what's the damage done?

Sure you do, all the time. GT its ownself has some great examples of same.
Certainly some of the players go to school, but the overwhelming majority of the best high school baseball players go pro, particularly with the slotting system MLB has now.

It's not up to the colleges to make a minor league, that's up to the NFL. Right now, the NFL has the best of everything. These schools are training the young men and preparing them for the next level and teh NFL doesn't have to pay anything. If the NFL starts a minor league, they have to fund that.

If the Northwestern suit goes to the players, the landscape of college football will change dramatically. It's the slippery slope...

So what are they worth? Is Jet worth more than than DJ White? Or Tyler Stargel? Are ACC players worth less than SEC players or more than Big South Players? And who gets to decide? It's all a bit of a needless rabbit hole.

I think you should write the NFL and Congress. Let them know amateur football athletes are being exploited and demand action from both.

So per the NFL, they are worth nothing until they are three years out of high school. That most choose to enhance their skills while obtaining an education and receiving free room and board is their own choice. That schools choose to try and recup those costs are their choice.

If the suit does go to the players it will actually help the ACC...

The real cost, however, is in the athletic department losing its tax exemption under Internal Revenue Code Section 501©(3). Currently, athletic departments (which are generally a separate legal entity from the university), athletic foundations/booster clubs and bowl games enjoy tax exempt status because they “promote amateur athletics,” an exempt purpose under the Code. If college athletes were compensated and found to be employees, revocation of this tax-exempt status would surely follow.

Which mean the Contributions lead that most SEC schools enjoy would be taxed... closing the Gap with other Schools...

There could be a state where players are allowed to have scholarship or get paid directly, leaving them to pay their tuition and fees, or there could be the Olympic model, where Justin Thomas gets his scholarship from the school and receives payment from Jim Ellis Honda to put his face on a billboard or ten.

End of college sport as it currently exists. What you propose in the bold allows factory bag-men to influence recruiting to levels not seen since the SMU days.

Either pay every D1 Athlete at every school the exact same or pay none of them. Of course, school facilities and resources will become something that would make the Cleveland Indian's in Major League look good because all that money in those figures in the OP has already been spent. Money to directly pay athletes will have to come from new revenues.

Is Thomas more valuable than DJ White? Yeah, probably. But good news! Open up the market and we can find out for sure. The rest of your questions can similarly be answered. Now, I've answered yours. Answer mine: Why shouldn't they get to make what they're worth?
