AB or BB at QB?

When asked who the perfect QB for his system would be CPJ said Tim Tebow. I think you want a guy who has good feet, is quick, can see the field and make the reads, and can throw well enough to make the defense pay for overplaying the run. The bigger, the faster, the more elusive, the more powerful he is, etc. the better. You want the guy who can juke you or run over you for the tough yards.

When CPJ took the reigns at Tech he had the advantage that the spread was still very much in its infancy in college football. Pro-style offenses were the norm. This made running QBs of all stripes more available. Now, with the spread being the predominant offense all the big schools are looking for QBs with size who can run and are willing to take chances that they might not throw well enough....they can always convert them to another position.

It's possible we may have seen more big/powerful QBs at GT if the game hadn't changed in this way. But, if JT sticks with Bama, we probably see Tim Byerly play a lot for us. If Jordan's throwing had been better than Taquon's and he'd stayed healthy we probably would have seen more of him too.

Personally I really like Taquon at QB a lot. A lot of his problems throwing I thought came in the second half of the season when we were playing better defenses and (1) our running game wasn't working, and (2) our pass pro-wasn't holding up. Some QB's like JT might be able to create in that situation but that's a rare bird. If we can run more consistently and protect better I think you see TM take a step forward in the passing game next year.

Personally I really like Taquon at QB a lot. A lot of his problems throwing I thought came in the second half of the season when we were playing better defenses and (1) our running game wasn't working, and (2) our pass pro-wasn't holding up. Some QB's like JT might be able to create in that situation but that's a rare bird. If we can run more consistently and protect better I think you see TM take a step forward in the passing game next year.

Agreed. I would like us , first and foremost to have an injury free ( or at least minimal) offensive line so the QBs can show what they can really do. TM IS a great runner, but his inability to pass -not necessarily entirely his fault - really hampers his and every back's ability to run. We just MUST have a credible passing threat to make our offense more unpredictable and dangerous.

JeT was a dynamic runner, but he also had a propensity to take a huge negative play when trying to make something out of nothing. The thing that impresses me most about TM is he takes what is there, he doesn't rack up those hugely negative plays that can kill a drive. I pretty much agree with everything you said though.

TM is the best natural runner at QB we’ve had under CPJ. I’m not worried about his throwing at all. I am worried about his ability to read the option. I say this because at the end of the year we rarely ran the TO and when we did there was a missed read. We desperately need a QB that can make the reads more than anything. I do enjoy watching TM run the ball. He’s not the fastest or the biggest or the strongest, but his ability to read running lanes and cut are second to none that we’ve had. He truly has a rare feature. I just hope he gets back to making the right read so we can run the TO.

Love the analysis of previous qb. Imo So if lj adds 10# of muscele (225# plus) i think he could be very good qb - as a distributor of the ball. His height would allow for more effective screen passes. His target should be tq as much as practical as he is a beast .

Got to meet Tim B - while not tall (genuine 6 foot), he really seemed like a good blend of powerful but not muscle bound .

However ib - i take some issue with end of year quality of teams defenses. Duke and virginia were really not that good. By end of year once the ball was in tq hands it had an almost certainty of staying there. 1/3 of his passes caught were by opponent.
The amount of improvement needed in passing is vast. I am very concerned about the lack of improvement - no i am very concerned about the decline in performance of the offense.

No matter what tq needs to be integral to offense. Genuine hope will start to grow in spring training.

I think if he hadn’t gotten injured in 2015, TaQuon Marshall would have been a starting A-back by the end of the year like Clinton Lynch. He’s a heck of a runner, but I don’t know if he has what it takes to be a good QB in our offense. I can’t help but think that if Tevin had been at the helm this past season we would have made a bowl game. Prove me wrong, TaQuon, like I thought you had early last season.

This was Taquons first year really running the offense and I think he did well. If he had had more experience before last year I think we would have win a couple more games. This year we will win those games and be bowling again.

TM has a lot of things going for him : experience, temperment, running ability , and probably others I didn't mention. I am just hoping he can take it to the next level , aided by a better OL . What concerns me is that if 2018 continues to be an extension of 2017, what will CPJ do ? If he still feels that TM is the best he has at the position , then I would wonder what it would take to give someone else a shot.
