Exactly! This shows the problem isn't the ball he throws, it's who is catching it. Stockton has familiarity with him from HS. Once Philo gets more 1st team reps, they'll learn how to catch him.

That will certainly help, but Stockton didn’t try to catch a high fastball from 10 yards away. There are times to put max zip on the ball and times to put some air under the ball and times to take a little zip off to help your receivers make more catches.

We need better receivers to go with an NFL caliber QB. Too many times guys had passes hit them in bad places (their hands) and resulted in drops/tips. Granted, defenders were there to distract them or poke at the ball after they grabbed it, but too often those pokes and grabs dislodged the ball for incompletions.

You can argue (as a number of you have) that Philo needs to learn how to feather those passes in, but I think our receivers need to be stronger on the ball.

Philo should attract really good receivers for recruiting.

I thought the receiver going to the right pylon was the better and less risky throw. He was rolling right and the defender was trailing the receiver. He also had room to run.

Yep....I love the guy...my only quibble is that I wish fewer bombs were being underthrown. That 1st one last night to Singleton would have been an easy TD if thrown 10 or 15 feet further. Singleton had to slow and wait for it...allowing the DB to catch up and break up the catch. Easy for me to say, right? He is probably saying the same thing to himself!

Give him an offseason of chemistry and we might see a great connection between the two.

If I remember right, on the next bomb he threw he chucked it and trusted Singleton to catch up to it. Maybe we’re seeing that develop in real time

This is a little different than normal since our main guy is hurt, I don’t think anyone on here (with a brain) would prefer Philo over a healthy Haynes King this season- we are just excited for the future. I hate it for King that he’s hurt but this has been great for Philo to get some serious game experience under his belt.

The issue is not with throws 30-40 yards downfield. It is with short throws when there are often multiple defenders in the area.

Kings injury can obviously be rehabbed, although he’s pretty old so maybe he wants to move on. However, he’s not going to play in the NFL and he loves playing football, so I highly doubt it. Not to mention the very, very strong bond between King and Key, and King and Weinke.

I will say this - it seems like we have a pretty special QB room right now. Every time the cameras cut to the sideline to show Philo, I saw Pyron or King or Knowles supporting him. Especially Pyron - after that INT in the end zone he was right there, obviously helping Philo get through it and put it out of his mind. This is all perception but in the middle of a tight game you can tell a lot from body language and that’s what it looks like to me.

We may not have the best QB in the nation, but we've got the best QB room. King, Pyron, Philo and then add Weinke. We have not seen much of Philo yet, but we know King and Pyron are high character and very tough guys. Stuff like that rubs off and changes locker rooms for the better.

For all the yapping on here about King and Pyron, my take is the Team is why they're both back in 2025 regardless of starting or how much playing time they would get. They just fit & if you've ever gone from a job you liked to a job you hated you understand what that means. It ain't all money all of the time although the money is nice to have.
