Not even on campus, but I think Grady Adamson (commit this year) is the type of dual-threat QB that could push Philo, depending on his passing. If you look at King, he’s an amazing run game threat and his downfield passing is OK. Philo’s downfield passing is really good but he’s not an every down run game threat. If Adamson’s downfield passing is really strong that would push Philo.

As for Knowlson, we haven’t seen him so hard to tell but I don’t see the mobility there.
Question is who will be back next year. HK may be done (off season surgery?), Knowles and Pyron may transfer. Will need lots of NIL to keep Philo from getting poached. He will likely lose his redshirt against uga.

I think part of why we limited King so much was to heal up his arm for uga.
He did mention in the post game interview that if he continues rehab there’s a “high probability” of him being a passing threat again by the uGA game.

Don’t know if that’s mind games or for real though

That is wishful thinking. King cannot throw the ball at the level needed to play QB in college now. That is very clear. He sat 3 weeks and in the past 2 games he has not thrown a pass longer than 5 yards. He is 9-9 for 44 yards the past 2 games. Most of his passes were Jet Sweep plays where he tosses the ball about 1 yard. That is not a capable QB at this point. He is a smart and tough player. He is clearly hurt to the point he is very compromised. He gives all he has all the time!

Kings injury can obviously be rehabbed, although he’s pretty old so maybe he wants to move on. However, he’s not going to play in the NFL and he loves playing football, so I highly doubt it. Not to mention the very, very strong bond between King and Key, and King and Weinke.

I will say this - it seems like we have a pretty special QB room right now. Every time the cameras cut to the sideline to show Philo, I saw Pyron or King or Knowles supporting him. Especially Pyron - after that INT in the end zone he was right there, obviously helping Philo get through it and put it out of his mind. This is all perception but in the middle of a tight game you can tell a lot from body language and that’s what it looks like to me.

Even after his runs, it looked like that right shoulder was drooping once he got to the sideline. We’re going to need to beat UGA without him.

The dude is a warrior and a servant leader - rare breed in my opinion.

Without hesitation, he is delivering catchable balls all over the field thru NFL-tight windows.

Is it just raw instinct and he he is doing this stuff without really thinking about it or is his processing and mechanics really this polished?

If he is really this polished already, we are seeing a really rare commodity in this sport.

He has been helped by really good OL pass protection.

It will be fun to watch him against NFL level pass defenders that UGA has.

Haynes King is a tough mf’er. Unfortunately he’s looked seriously banged up after plays and on the sideline. I hope we aren’t putting him at risk of serious injury

I thought I noticed on the sideline that King was hanging his arm again after a certain tackle. I hope I'm wrong.

King threw a short pass to a receiver early in the game while he also saw a wide open TE running a parallel route 20 yards down the field. It was a sure TD if caught. HK couldn't make the throw to the TE and took the short route 5 yards away. Either he is being cautious with his rehab or he is unable to make the throw. HK just shook his hanging head after that play.

King immediately put his hands on his head after letting the ball go. To me that says he just didn’t see him until too late. We’ll find out next week. I do have the feeling he could throw more than he let on this week, but with Philo playing well and the run game totally stuffed, game flow didn’t favor it.

My bet is on King as a GA or analyst at GT after he’s done playing.

Probably not enough velocity to throw over the middle or outs into tight coverage. I have concerns he has a tear of some sort that will take lots of time or maybe surgery. A simple contusion should be healed. It's a catch22: he needs it to rest it but he needs to throw in practice.

We need better receivers to go with an NFL caliber QB. Too many times guys had passes hit them in bad places (their hands) and resulted in drops/tips. Granted, defenders were there to distract them or poke at the ball after they grabbed it, but too often those pokes and grabs dislodged the ball for incompletions.

You can argue (as a number of you have) that Philo needs to learn how to feather those passes in, but I think our receivers need to be stronger on the ball.
