A Bruce Feldman tweet on CPJ

WTH is going on ??? smh

My theory is that CPJ is trying to sabotage recruiting with a month to go before NSD, so either he gets fired now and cashes in for $10.MM or he gets fired after next season and gets around $7.5MM , it is a sour-puss scorched earth mentality.

For example, when Neuheisel knew he was going to get fired at UCLA, he wouldn't pull Huntley's RS and hurt the program after he was gone and he kept working hard recruiting studs, which is why UCLA has won 9 games last yr. and 10-games this yr.

If CPJ sabotages Recruiting then the next HC will be more likely to fail and therefore make his tenure at GT look even better, CPJ seems to be the kinda guy that won't go quietly.

These are theories of course, after all WHY leak that out to a CFB-writer 1-month before NSD?

Regardless whether GT fans think Feldman's tweet is accurate, the idea that CPJ isn't happy came from a pretty credible (atleast to Feldman) GT source. GT isn't important enough in the sports world for someone of Feldman's standing to just make up some random rumor.

Few things:
1. Maybe CPJ isn't happy that the school hasn't extended his contract. For recruiting purposes, and to quelch the "CPJ needs a big 2014 season or he's out" rumors. The staff is going to have a hard time recruiting to GT if the head coach won't be there to till the end with the kid.

2. CPJ really isn't happy, and he's making it known publicly through intermediaries that he's open game if another school is interested. It's funny how agents work.

3. Ted Roof is a sly guy...

This. It's why when people say "the hill/GT will never get rid of CPJ because he graduates players" (besides the fact that it's not CPJ tutoring and doing class checks on our SAs) that's just pure conjecture and not anymore accurate than saying CPJ doesn't win enough and if doesn't win X amount of games in 2014 he's gone. Things that go on behind the scenes are MUCH more influential than what most fans get to see.

No, it is not CPJ that does the tutoring etc., but his contract bonuses for graduating players and having them progressive academically are more substantial than getting ranked in the top 25 / 10 etc. It pretty much shows "the hill's" priorities. CPJ keeps the kids progressing and graduation, and keeps above .500, the hill is not going to move to get rid of him.

Kelly Quinlan just said this rumor has no legs at all on twitter. It would take an epic battle for the money to buy him out. Way to go Bruce.

This is nothing more than a rumor. Don't get too excited.

If you really believe just because CPJ gets a bigger bonus because of SA's academic performance is a tipoff that the Hill an GT value APR over getting butts in the seats and more wins, then more power to you. Anyone that knows the business of sports will tell you how false tht premise is. CPJ isn't the only coach that gets paid more money in his contract for graduating kids than team rankings/wins. Most coach's contracts are in the public domain, you should look it up.

The hill isn't going to get rid of CPJ, atleast in the immediate future without a steep discount, because they can't afford to.
