Did anybody else do something as stupid as I did? I stayed up through 4 overtimes (or was it 40?) pulling hard for Texas A&M to win. Rarely do I sit through an SEC game and I almost never pull for one SEC team against another. But I knew if Texas A&M went down it would put jawjuh back in the driver’s seat. Not ever wasting my time again on that or allowing myself to get emotionally involved.
Auburn reminds me of where so many teams are in college football. A team can have talent but have some glaring weakness that sabotages their effort. It might be kicking and special teams, it might be being prone to turnovers and penalties, or it might be having a subpar OL or DL. These teams will lose lots of games but under the right circumstances they can put together one or two excellent games and compete with almost anyone.
Tech did that with Miami. I fear it’s too much to ask for them to turn around and do that again.

I was at that game. Everyone was wondering, “Who are these players wearing AU uniforms.”
I left with 2 minutes to go. The crowd was booing the conservative play calling being behind at the time. I was shocked to the max to make it home and hear AU won!
AU is very talented. The receiver corps is extremely good and did well with big plays. It reminded me of Tennessee in the 80s.
I was at the Ala-Missouri game and told my host that if this Bama team plays, AU can beat them.
Game day coaching still matters. I think Freeze is a terrific recruiter. But his game day coaching is very questionable. Still.

Kansas and Auburn have had some tough ‘luck’ and were perceived better than their records.
No unranked team has ever beaten 3 ranked teams in a row prior to the last three Kansas games. Kansas was, on average, a 2 point underdog, during that three game stretch so the perception for each game was nearly 50/50 despite looking like upsets.
Similarly, Auburn was a 2.5 point underdog to aTm, minor upset, despite ensuing field storming.
GT’s upset of Miami was much bigger, but to put into perspective, we were a larger underdog to unranked VPI than we were top 5 Miami.
u(sic)ga is a different animal. However both Kentucky and Florida were similar sized underdogs to the dwags and both had halftime leads.

For 3 ACC teams to get in... Miami & SMU win next weekend & ....

Indiana falls to 10th in both polls an Boise St 11th in both.
best case scenario of ACC next week would be
SMU beats Cal
Miami beats Syracuse
Clemson beats SCe
GT beats UGA
L'ville beats KY
USC beats ND
Vandy beats TN
We will see how many happen.
If both SMU and Miami win next week then I think the odds of the ACC getting two bids gets pretty high.
Clem and L'ville beating their SEC opponents is extremely important for ACC reputation. If both win then L'ville who is around #27 or so in the rankings would likely move into the Top 25.
Clemson beating SCe would give it a talking point against 3-loss SEC teams.
UGA only misses the CFP if it loses both of its next 2 games. A win in either gets them in.
I think both SMU and Miami have challenges next week. On paper Mia-Syr should be a big shoot out.
Cal tends to play well defensively and keep things close.
One thing I don't believe has been talked about enough or played up enough by the ACC is that SMU is undefeated since changing QB's. That should be in discussion when comparing teams. SMU has been a different team ever since that switch was made. I would be pounding that point over and over.
I think it is really unlikely that ACC could get 3 teams in, but if all those games above played out that way then you could at least make a case for 3 ACC teams, but it just seems so unlikely.

SMU and Miami are the best bets on that list. Clemson and Louisville are meh bets. Don't bet on the others unless you have cash to throw away.
The key for me is that SMU, Miami, and Clemson all need to hold service. That freezes Clemson at no worse than #12 with two losses. I don't think a close loss in the ACCCG will hurt either Miami or SMU. Clemson sitting at #12 is a good sign. The B12 champ will bump one of the top 12 out, so the ACC needs Indiana to lay an egg against an awful Purdue team or, alternatively, uga or Tennessee to get a 3rd loss next weekend. Boise St falling out of the top 12 doesn't help the ACC. I wonder if ND will fall out of the top 12 with a loss @ USC. Part of me thinks they are locked in no matter what happens short of a blowout loss.
