If Clemson beats South Carolina this week, I think they are in before the loser of an ACC championship game between SMU and Miami. They will likely be around #12 after this week, they are a big brand, and a win over USCe will put them even higher.

Perhaps if Clemson destroys USCe and the loser of the ACCCG gets destroyed.

Personally I don’t like that. In part due to the CCG ‘penalty’ but also in part due to Clemson downright embarrassing the ACC in week 1.

I’m all in favor of the ACC getting respect but have a hard time seeing Clemson performing much differently than they previously did against top competition.

I think the committee has to be very careful with this.
I agree, for what it’s worth…. This week both Miami and SMU should be top 10. Clemson should be 11-13 range.
If all three win out, Clemson has the best win next week. They could be sitting right behind or maybe even right in front of SMU. The conf championship should be the two best conference teams by definition. Those participants should be the two conference representatives if the conference gets two in the CFP.
I dont think a team should get rewarded for NOT playing in the conf championship. Unless of course, the intent is to kill conference championship games altogether (which may indeed be the case)

I’m pretty sure Mack isn’t making decisions for the money. He’s probably got a ton of money in the bank.
i hope Mack doesn’t resign. Poor look when everyone knows he’s going out after next year. Basically holding them hostage. Of course, they could name their elite DC “coach in waiting”.

Wow… they really don’t like Clemson do they? Actually, however, this feels a whole lot better than last weeks (and presumably this weeks) CFP rankings.

Since there are 3 teams in the top 10 who we play, does that mean we are we the reason why their schedules are so tough?

USC (e) vs Clemson is a Big Game for the ACC. If Clemson loses that will really hurt the ACC's perception. If Miami loses to Syracuse Clemson is in the ACC Championship Game vs SMU. Best scenario for getting 2 ACC teams into the CFP is for Clemson to beat USCe convincingly and SMU is a very competitive close and entertaining ACCC Game. Having Vandy beat Tennessee would also help.

I can hear Kirk now preparing people to justify a 9-3 UGA in CFP talks before the SECCG even happens…
“UGA understandably didn’t care to beat Tech because they knew they still had the SECCG. It was actually smart of them to rest up. Therefore, eye testing that theory, they will be in the CFP conversation if they end 9-4 with a close loss to Texas”

What 4 teams would be in if it were last year? And who would be on the outside looking in?
Too soon to make that call as Conference Championship Games will have an impact as will games this week. Oregon is currently the only lock but they have 2 games left that they could easily lose.

We’re in agreement. The angle I was scratching at was if Clemson, Miami and SMU all win this weekend - which is in the ACCs best interest, is that the 11-2 loser of the ACCCG should get ahead of 10-2 Clemson that didn’t qualify for the game (and embarrassed the ACC week 1). I’m not opposed to all three being in but that’s unlikely.

To get three teams in the cfp the ACC needs help. Tennessee losing to Vandy would be a good start. Likewise, Indiana dropping off the list.

Indiana is probably still on the list.

Conference champions scenarios

Big 12 is a mess

Tennessee is probably in the CFP now, unless Vandy steps up

How does David define "Strength of Record"? I assume it factors in W/L record with SoS somehow. SoS can be somewhat subjective if you start the season with it preloaded.
