Anyone who believes the ACC will get more than 1 team in the playoff are simply being purposely obtuse. The fix has been since the fake negotiations for the negotiations. The winner of the ACCCG will get in and that’s it. Eventually the BIG and SEC will once again play Phillips and get him to agree to do away with auto qualifiers. It will be funny to watch his press conference. Oh, yeah, he doesn’t do those, he just hides like he did last year.
SMU has to “prove” they belong. The ACC only has one apparent elite team in Miami. SMU still Carrie’s the G5 stigma. Clemson was around #10 until they got beat down by Louisville. They got way too much credit for beating several meh teams. SMU has a chance as long as they don’t lay an egg. They have the best chance to beat Miami in the ACC as they can score with Miami.

Santucci’s biggest remaining task is to win portal season. Feels like our D has not fared super well there lately. Hopefully he can change it
As has been said MANY times, it takes a while and this is his first season putting in his system and players. Saying it is not fared well is very disingenuous. We are not even through his first season and we keep seeing improvement week after week.

Then to say that after they played a fantastic game against Miami one of the best offenses in the country holding them to what 50% of their normal scoring is a complete WTF are you talking about moment

I said we haven’t faired well in the defensive portal. Pre-Santucci.

I think he can turn that around.

Did anybody else see the Pitt-UVA game last night?

Tight game in the 4th quarter with UVA up and trying to end the game, Pitt trying to get the ball back. UVA is in field goal range but has a 4th and one and decides to go for it.

The official set the ball and UVA snaps the ball and Pitt stuffs the play. The line judges move in from the sidelines and spot the ball cleanly short of the first down. No flags, whistles or timeouts.

But then the officials huddle and the umpire announces to the crowd that the officials were not in position and that the play had to be run over again.

On replay, the umpire who put the ball down was standing next to the QB when the QB snapped the ball but was not in any way involved in the play. He didn't blow the play dead.

Instead of Pitt ball, UVA goes on to make the first on the re-play and go on to score and win the game.

I have not seen anything like this before and I've been watching football since the early 1970s. The play was run and then after the play was completely over an official just says the play had to be run over again
.
The play had a big impact on the game.

Unacceptable incompetence ... or worse.

Didn’t see it but that is indeed gross incompetence by the officials.
( I think maybe they were supposed to do the Miami game but someone screwed up the assignments, but they decided to pick the winner anyway..)

The worst I ever saw was UNCheat at UVA about 15 years ago now.

UVA was attempting a long FG at the end of the half. The officials were under the goalposts on each side. The ball came down right in the corner, over the goalpost, and the official ducked to keep it from hitting him. He straightened back up and signaled “no good!”

It was right over his head but he ducked and missed it. Unbelievable! The UVA coach appealed the call and won. Just horrible officiating!

That should never happen. This was likely due to the offens substituting players and the official standing between the center and QB to hold the play for defensive subs. The official has to signal ready for play. If he did then a 100% screw up. Still it’s on the official to blow the play dead ASAP. Wow I bet Pitt is POed!

You said "Unacceptable incompetence ... or worse.", I without question believe it was "worse". I've seen that stuff before by the ACC when the conference seems to favor a certain outcome for whatever reason. Pat Narduzzi was absolutely furious and IMO rightfully so, he was being robbed of his teams legitimate shot at winning the game.

How about when we played USC in the 2012 Sun Bowl. USC attempted a field goal. The camera angle clearly showed the kick being wide left ( you could see the ball passing in front of the left upright). The official under the upright never looked up but signaled “good”. The broadcast cut to a commercial saying USC had a 3-0 lead. When they came back they said the call was changed.
