We're missing a good catch all thread for stuff during the offseason that might not truly be worthy of it's own thread but doesn't exactly fit in all the other one already created.

I'll start with GT v Pitt being ranked the 42nd best CFB game this past season by Bill C at SBNation. As well as COFH being ranked at #39.

2016 was supposed to be the beginning of the end for Paul Johnson. Following an 11-win 2014, Johnson’s Yellow Jackets went 3-9 in 2015, then lost three in a row after a 3-0 start in 2016.

They won six of their final seven, however, handling Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and Kentucky in the TaxSlayer Bowl. They also eked out a couple of thrillers.

In desperate need of a win, the Ramblin’ Wreck burst out to a 28-7 lead over Duke behind touchdown runs of 82 and 22 yards by Justin Thomas. Duke went on a 28-3 run of its own to surge ahead midway through the fourth quarter. Thomas ripped off a 46-yard run on second-and-19 from his 5, then completed a 21-yard touchdown to give the Jackets the final lead.

On Thanksgiving weekend, the Jackets were the team unleashing the late comeback. A 20-0 Georgia run put the home team up 27-14 heading into the fourth quarter, but Dedrick Mills scored with 6:28 left, and Lance Austin picked off UGA’s Jacob Eason near midfield. After another key pass, Qua Searcy scored to give Tech a sudden lead. And on the final play, Brant Mitchell reeled in an Eason heave.

Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Ted Roof gets to coach his son, too. T.D. Roof, a three-star scholarship linebacker out of Buford (Ga.) High, will get to play for his father for the first time.

“I wanted him, before he made a decision on where he was going to go to school, to understand all the implications that come along with that,” Roof told reporters on signing day. “If he comes here, he's going to get whatever he earns. I lean on the other way of treating my sons harder rather than easier because that prepares them for the world and not just football. All he wants is a fair shake and the other coaches here, Coach (Paul) Johnson will make sure he gets that.”

Roof tried to stay out of the recruiting process as much as he could, leaving the heavy lifting to Johnson and former assistant Bryan Cook (now at Georgia Southern). T.D. made his commitment last summer and didn’t waver. His twin brother, Mic, ended up signing with UNC-Charlotte as a quarterback. Georgia Tech didn’t recruit him because he wasn’t a fit for Johnson’s offense.

So not only will T.D. Roof be with his dad full time, he will be away from his brother for the first time in his life. Both will take adjusting. As for learning how to play as the defensive coordinator’s son, Ted Roof said, “At the end of the day if you're a tough guy, if you’re a baller, you get respect and if you're not, you don't. He’s going to have to start from scratch here and earn it.”

That was not the only familiar connection for Roof. Brothers Bruce Jordan-Swilling and Tre Swilling also signed with the Jackets. Their dad, Pat, played with Roof at Georgia Tech.

I'll throw this one out that burns me up. If the "star" system was perfect, how could you compare classes? Look at a team that signs 13-14 vs a team that signs 25 or more.
And how could you compare say the number 25 QB in the nation vs the number 26. An industry without a product to sell.

.. depends if he can get the same hand$hake $upport and a$$i$tance from Alumni with recruit$ and player$.
The area has plenty of talent so they won't have to go far to get players. U of H has some issues recruiting - commuter school body, high crime rate adjacent to campus , and have near by pro sports teams that are currently doing well.
What they have is a head of board of regents who is a marketing dynamo - Tillman Fertitis AKA The Billionaire tv series, The Golden Nugget casinos, Landries Restruants .

This head of the governing body sees the importance of vibrant athletics - donated 25,000,000$ of his own money for basketball facilities. He personally was involved in giving coaching job to a very famous U of T quarterback just to spite Texas who stole his coach. He is also furious that UT blocked the entry of UH into big 12. Motivated billionaire marketing genius who is in charge of football program in area with great talent will be successful. Bet on it.
Most of us texas types hate UT so I could be biased.
