After the first 10 rounds, I don't think there is slotting and bonuses are negotiated outside of slotting. The money teams save on slotted players is used to throw at kids to tempt them to sign.

I think I get your point about slotting. That term only applies to the top 10 rounds. After the top 10 rounds there is no longer slotting, but bonuses above $100K go against the cap (http://m.mlb.com/news/article/170470526/2016-draft-bonus-pools-pick-values from post #60) The Reds didn't save any money on Trammel, paying him $1.4M over the slot value!

Also, Gold's lack of signing is typical for the Rockies: http://www.purplerow.com/2016/6/14/11936276/mlb-draft-signings-tracker-colorado-rockies-2016 so being unsigned for him right now means little given the organization has a whole bunch of other players to sign too. Reading the article that @FredJacket posted , Gold is going to take the opportunity. Good for him!!

I couldn't find comparable info for Gorst.

Gorst not signed but the Red SOx are very slow in signing this year compared to last year. If he isn't signed by July, then there's hope he'll be back. But the Red Sox usually sign their top 20 draft picks. After that it's real spotty. Here's 2015 as an example: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/team/draft.jsp?c_id=bos&year=2015

Yes I'm bored. Here are all of the GT players currently in the minors: http://www.beesball.com/alumni2016.html

Looks like Heddinger is done as he was released in March and not picked up by anyone yet. Too bad for him. Tough business where few make it to the MLB. He got the $100K payout but then spent two years seeing how it worked out. If he had waited to be a Sr, he would have gotten $5K and probably ended up in the same place... so I can't say he made a mistake ...... http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?P=josh-heddinger

I really wish baseball would wait the 4th year before signing. What difference does one year make?

That would be really bad for the players and college baseball itself. After four years the players would have zero leverage to get any kind of reasonable bonus. Anyone with any modicum of legitimate baseball talent would go straight to the pros after high school. The talent in college baseball would plummet. And since that would be the only time they could actually get a decent bonus their leverage would take a hit as well.

It'd mess with the sport on a lot of levels. It's a real bad idea. I think what we've got now is pretty good.
