What makes Paul Davis not a BB? His Hudl video is an excellent display of B backing. He has the skills to do it. He is an extremely talented LB, but we all know he has visible flaws as well. Maybe he has flaws as BB, actually I'm sure he does, but everything I know about the guy suggests to me he would be every bit as successful at RB as he is a LB.

Are you crazy? Davis is our best returning linebacker, the kid is a natural on Defense and mean as a snake. He should be all-acc next year.

There are several questions going into spring (LB depth, B-Back, A-Back depth). The usual biggest question, defensive line, looks better on paper than it has in years.

The largest question is at WR. We as fans have no idea what Tech has, but it is easy to observe how good WRs really help this offense. I am not holding out hope that Tech has another super stud WR on the roster ala Smelter/BeBe, but I do hope Tech can finally field two quality and reliable WRs on the field at the same time. I have yet to observe that.

Eric, what is the feeling among the team/coaches about their WR talent going forward?

I think your two deep looks good. A name I did not see was Roderick Rook-Chungong. I believe he started at the beginning of the season however seemed to only get spot duty as the the season progressed. Any updates on him? I wonder because he was part of the group that came from the MD area schools when Groh was here. At least two are no longer here so I wonder what impact that could have for future recruiting in that area.

I agree. WR is about the only position I’m really worried about at the moment. We’ve got some players coming in, but the cast as a whole is very young. If Ricky Jeune is as good as advertised we may be in decent shape.

Becase Beau is faster and more athletic than Marcordes. I remember time after time Marcordes was really late or just getting burned in coverage...also didn't do much in run defense. I do think he is valuable tho on 3rd down, to get to the QB. He has shown then ability to get there.

This sounds a lot like speculation. Beau hasn't played much on anything but special teams. On the year, Tyler had 5.5 TFL (4th on the team), 2 Sacks (tied for 3rd), and 28 tackles (good for 9th). If Beau could do better, the coaches would be starting him.

Roof played LB and was a darn good one, too. I bet he knows which guy gives us the best chance to win.

Go back and watch the games, he missed plenty of opportunities to create a play. Often being late to the play or was just barely getting an arm on the player before he broke the weak tackle. I think his best position will be a 3rd down pass rusher

Tyler Melton was an excellent, underrated WR for us. With Demaryius Thomas opposite him, he rarely saw the ball, but he was a fantastic blocker and was reliable the odd occasion we did throw his way.

I'm a big fan of Marcordes, but I think his best position may as a pass rushing specialist at OLB. Seems to be what Roof was using him at the second half of the year to great results.

I don't really understand the throwing around of names randomly. Pj to BBack?? He is our best linebacker!
And seriously, are we still having the JT vs Byerly discussion? Our best qb wears #5. We all know that, right?

I think the JT vs. Byerly stuff is all tongue-and-cheek, making fun of the debate last spring.

How is it speculation when ChasonBaller is pointing out what he has SEEN. I, too, have noticed the same about Macordes. He is a great situational pass rush specialist but fails miserably at all other phases. He can not make an open field tackle to save his life. But there is no one better on the team at getting after the QB in passing situations.

Ted Roof doesn't make mistakes??? Players don't evolve??? In his limited playing time, Hankins has made some big plays and stops. Given the chance (more playing in game situations), he will supplant Macordes and then you will realize CTR's genius. lol

It is speculation because there is nothing to say that Beau would have made the plays that Tyler didn't and because Beau has not played much outside of special teams, his strengths and weakness are likely unknown to us.

But we've seen Beau make similar plays when given the opportunity. And BTW, kick/punt returns are almost always open field type plays, which Hankins excels at by what I've seen. He probably would not be as good as Macordes at getting after the QB but that is speculation...
