Started the first half decent. Duke started pulling away, and couldn’t miss much. Fought back to cut the lead to five going into halftime due to tough defense and ball movement. We missed a lot of shots, but we had good paint touches. Also, Baye and Powell were great on offense (Powell also locked down Flagg better than anyone I’ve seen). Came out flat to start the second half, as usual, and got outscored about 20-3 in the first six minutes. Duke made their adjustments and utilized the lobs to Maluch, breaking down the zone by getting the ball to the middle, and keeping us from scoring in the paint.
I don’t understand why we change what’s working at halftime - the lineups, defense and offensive sets. WHY WOULD WE GO ZONE AGAINST A STRONG SHOOTING TEAM ALREADY SHOOTING 65% FROM THE FIELD??? Why change the lineup that got us back in the game? Why get away from the motion offense and ball movement that got us back into the game?
Lance Terry is our leading scorer and we didn’t get him many touches. All of our shots were tough shots. We don’t know how to win unless we clearly outmatch the talent of our opponents.
