GT vs. Miss St.! ACC vs. SEC! Top 25 opponent coming into McCamish! 7:00 Tuesday night!
Our men's basketball team gets another challenge against a very good Mississippi St. team. In Coach Chris Jans first season last year, they made the NCAA tournament and they are already 6-0 this year with wins over Northwestern and Arizona St. They have an experienced team with 6 Srs. but their best player so far this year is freshman Josh Hubbard coming off the bench. It looks like they play excellent defense, holding opponents to 59 points per game (11th in NCAA).
GT is 2-2 and riding a two-game losing streak and coming off of devastating loss to Cincinnati. They have not looked particularly good so far, but it seems Coach Stoudamire is still searching for the right combinations. So then, is this game hopeless?
Do we have any chance?
Well, yes, I think so. First of all, we are back at home and Miss St. is playing their first true away game. Second, if there is one thing we have done well this year it is offensive rebounding, as we average 15.5 a game (good for 11th). One could argue that is because we miss so many shots, but I would like to think that it is an actual strength of our team and will give us important second chances that will lead to more points. Finally, I would like to point out that our chances are improved because I titled the thread appropriately, which is apparently very important. We'll find out soon.
Go Jackets!
