I see this stated periodically. Which news source was reporting that Cremins was paying his players. I confess I missed this somehow.

If you need sources to know that good D1 basketball players were getting paid on the side, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Yeah, you will not read this one in the AJC rag....... I was on campus during those years, trust me, it is dead *** accurate.

I’m just partial to facts and specifics is all. Perhaps Cremins cheated but I don’t just want to just assume that. Sorry. It’s kind of like people who say all politicians are crooked. It’s lazy and inaccurate.

Lazy and inaccurate would be reflective of someone unable to do their own homework and research. It is a good thing I am well versed in foreign politics of the late 1870's. There is your breadcrumb and the only one I will give.

The article is clearly biased, out of touch, has a Pollyanna attitude, and did not do its personal research. If only the author had studied 1870’s foreign politics…..

Boeheim wasn’t going to start him & certainly didn’t want him going to St. John’s. Cremins wouldn’t have wanted him to end up at North Carolina. Both schools mentioned by Anthony. Apparently Boeheim (upstate) & Cremins (Bronx), not surprisingly, were NY buddies. Watch & have a laugh with them.

I expect tonight we will see a fired-up and tough team on the court against Charleston Southern, something we did not see much of versus a tough Cincinnati.

Haven’t watched the video but watching CDS during games I’m reminded of Phil Jackson a little.

I expect tonight we will see a fired-up and tough team on the court against Charleston Southern, something we did not see much of versus a tough Cincinnati.

I think coaches may tend to take on the demeanor of their coaches, especially in their formative years their college coaches. Coach Olson at Arizona was beginning his college coaching career at Long Beach State and he is quoted as saying he learned much of his coaching style from Coach Wooden at UCLA in the 1960's. Coach Wooden and coaches of the 50's and 60's may have developed their in-game styles from their college coaches, who had coached before the rule change in the 1948-49 season to allow coaches to talk to players during timeouts. http://www.orangehoops.org/NCAA/NCAA Rule Changes.htm . It makes sense to me that Coach Stoudamire would follow the same demeanor of his college coach. We old fogies may recall Coach Whack Hyder's calm demeanor on the Tech bench, the style I followed during my five years of high school and college coaching. The most excited I saw Coach Hyder get was to say "cheese and crackers" to a ref at UVA and he got ejected from the game.

There are all kind of styles that have been successful. From Bobby Knight one one extreme to Wooden on the other. And pretty much every shade of gray in between. The key is connecting with your players and getting the most out of them (motivation). From afar (which I am), CDS is an interesting contradiction of seeming to really connect with players but not so far this year get the most out of them/ motivation. I am hoping this changes soon as I do think we have legit talent.
