I see this stated periodically. Which news source was reporting that Cremins was paying his players. I confess I missed this somehow.
If you need sources to know that good D1 basketball players were getting paid on the side, I'm not sure what to tell you.
Yeah, you will not read this one in the AJC rag....... I was on campus during those years, trust me, it is dead *** accurate.

I’m just partial to facts and specifics is all. Perhaps Cremins cheated but I don’t just want to just assume that. Sorry. It’s kind of like people who say all politicians are crooked. It’s lazy and inaccurate
Lazy and inaccurate would be reflective of someone unable to do their own homework and research. It is a good thing I am well versed in foreign politics of the late 1870's. There is your breadcrumb and the only one I will give.

Still no sources. For anything.
No sources, but he told you off with such a high level of superior condescension, smugness & self-aggrandizement that would buckle the knees of Dale Carnegie. Gotta give credit & admire that, no? Jump to paragraph 4 in article below. Can’t wait to see who these guys besmirch next. Bobby Dodd? John Heisman?

Thanks for doing your homework and researching to find this article.

Marbury lived in the Mayfair luxury high rise apartment building near Piedmont Park when he was a student. My friend was his neighbor. I always thought that was odd.

Credit Cusejacket for previously posting in Swarm 2 years ago on Marbury recruitment. Go find the video. If you find it, recruitment is explained. Wasn’t about $. Boeheim told him he wasn’t going to start at Syracuse & his family laughed at Boeheim. Cremins promised him the ball.

“…and he did so without sacrificing the integrity of his school or profession.” The article further asserts that he did not cheat.

The article is clearly biased, out of touch, has a Pollyanna attitude, and did not do its personal research. If only the author had studied 1870’s foreign politics…..

Marbury repeated his recruitment story more recently with Carmelo Anthony. Fun interview. They ultimately ponder whether Boeheim & Cremins were in cahoots. Boeheim wasn’t going to start him & certainly didn’t want him going to St. John’s. Cremins wouldn’t have wanted him to end up at North Carolina. Both schools mentioned by Anthony. Apparently Boeheim (upstate) & Cremins (Bronx), not surprisingly, were NY buddies. Watch & have a laugh with them.

Always loved the NY connection. Cremins could speak their language.

After viewing this hour long You-Tube video of Coach Stoudamire talking about his basketball life and philosophy, I am beginning to understand him. I expect tonight we will see a fired-up and tough team on the court against Charleston Southern, something we did not see much of versus a tough Cincinnati.

Haven’t watched the video but watching CDS during games I’m reminded of Phil Jackson a little.

John Wooden at UCLA and Phil Jackson in the pros had similar demeanor at CDS on the sidelines. All seem intent on linking physical technique to a kind of zen mindfulness. Once a team adopts the mindset of such a coach they are hard to beat.

Let’s hope that becomes true for our team. To date, we haven’t seen it but I still have hope

I think coaches may tend to take on the demeanor of their coaches, especially in their formative years their college coaches. Coach Olson at Arizona was beginning his college coaching career at Long Beach State and he is quoted as saying he learned much of his coaching style from Coach Wooden at UCLA in the 1960's. Coach Wooden and coaches of the 50's and 60's may have developed their in-game styles from their college coaches, who had coached before the rule change in the 1948-49 season to allow coaches to talk to players during timeouts. http://www.orangehoops.org/NCAA/NCAA Rule Changes.htm . It makes sense to me that Coach Stoudamire would follow the same demeanor of his college coach. We old fogies may recall Coach Whack Hyder's calm demeanor on the Tech bench, the style I followed during my five years of high school and college coaching. The most excited I saw Coach Hyder get was to say "cheese and crackers" to a ref at UVA and he got ejected from the game.

There are all kind of styles that have been successful. From Bobby Knight one one extreme to Wooden on the other. And pretty much every shade of gray in between. The key is connecting with your players and getting the most out of them (motivation). From afar (which I am), CDS is an interesting contradiction of seeming to really connect with players but not so far this year get the most out of them/ motivation. I am hoping this changes soon as I do think we have legit talent.
