Good opportunity to get right before the Dawgs. I suspect we come out with a new found focus tomorrow night with Damon’s foot still in their asses.

I’ll be looking for the same thing as everyone else. Effort level, especially on defense, and can we take/make a shot that isn’t a 3.

There are no positives in a loss for me. BUT, the whole season, the players and the coaches do not blow up in smoke because of any single loss, much less in game 2. The usual suspects come out from hiding when this team loses as if they relish bashing it. Never hear from them after great wins. Almost think they sit at their TVs rooting for the opposition, salivating to fill the board here with vitriol. Additionally, UNF was no cupcake. And the 5out offense is fueled by tough man to man defense, so when you call for switching to zone as if the coaching staff should concede to their players an incapacity & lack of faith in their ability to play man to man just midway through the second game of a season I would enjoy reading your coaching credentials indicating you know strategy & motivation techniques better than this staff. The 5out worked great in the first half. As did the man to man in defending 3s against a team recognized as the “Birds of Trey”. UNF changed their attack from outside to inside and GT failed to adequately respond. Don’t think they are incapable. They just didn’t do it. Time to move on to the next one and root them on. That’s what fans do.

For sure, this site became more enjoyable for me when I began committing to the use of the Ignore button. Ignoring those fonts and not caring about their opinion any longer.

I'm not suggesting that I do not appreciate others opinions or those that differ from mine, but there's a section that only comes out after losses. Either the sky is falling or our coach is dumb.

North Florida has good pieces and they have a strong (wacky) coach. They're a good team, albeit one that we should have beaten. Now, let's put it behind us and get better.

Nah, no need for panic. Definitely don't want to see a loss but we've gotta start being more savvy as fans.

First of all, nobody's getting fired (eta. thats what I see as 'panic' speech from fans). May as well exercise patience and let the team come together.

I made the mistake of peeking at that other board and the first post I saw was some guy suggesting we need to 'keep an eye' on the N. FL coach 'just in case'. Like, how does that pass as viable conversation? Anyways, long story long, let's be better than that stuff

Most of that isn't aimed at you specifically, R1885, btw. Just speaking in general.

I haven't been able to watch the first two games for various reasons, but anyone thinking it would be smooth sailing to begin this year isn't paying attention.

We return George, Reeves, Ndongo, and Terry as our most "tenured" GT players. Terry was injured last year, and basically a glorified practice player when he got healthy.

Of the eight players that got minutes against UNF, 4 players weren't even on the team last year. Of the eleven players that got minutes against UWG, seven players weren't on the roster last year.

Point is, we've got a lot of talent, but it still takes time for everyone to gel and get used to Stoudamire's system. We're still in the learning of phase this season. Stoudamire is still learning about this team, and the team is still learning to play with each other. The hope is that we get better as the season progresses. Yes, it sucks to lose to teams like UNF, but these type of losses are actually becoming more common in college basketball.

We'll see how the team rebounds against Texas Southern, then we get a nice test against UGA.

I agree with your sentiment and understand what you're saying, but I had the UNF offense diagnosed within 2 minutes of both halves, and I ended my playing career after high school. CDS touted our bigs as being able to guard 1-5 and UNF directly challenged that all night and won those individual battles way more than they lost. If your guys can't do it, don't boast about them being able to do it. I'd rather him not say anything and us get beat than to say it and get shown up. 5 out killed us last year against Georgia Southern and now UNF has exploited us against it. Zone wasn't the answer when UNF was shooting as hot as they were in the first half. You've got to have guards fight through screens and figure out a way to hide Ndongo against guards. It was the lack of adjustments by CDS that frustrated me the most. You know what's coming, but you refuse to switch your defense to hide the weakness and make them play to your strength. Also, our guards have to start getting interested in rebounding when we go small to match a team like UNF.

Better individual defense, guards rebounding, bigs impacting shots around the rim, and offensive consistency will be what I'm watching for tonight. Can't go into the half in a slump and come out of the half in a slump. That middle 10 is more important that many people realize.

I'd ask whether or not he was letting them drown as a way of teaching them for later. Could it be possible teams, in gemeral, hold back on going all out in these early games?

I don't doubt the coaches saw what you saw - that's the impetus for my question(s).

That’s a valid point. Sometimes letting guys figure out the game without explicitly telling them what’s going on bodes well for diagnosing a team later on. Kids gotta have basketball IQ too

This is a new team still figuring it out. CDS is methodical in his approach and will use early games to learn about his team in game situations. He will probably have them humming by late January and a tough out for any opponent.

Defense is where I think we will see the biggest difference tonight! Offense is scoring points and looking pretty smooth, for the most part. I expect much better energy, better boxing out, etc. On the defensive end.
