Alright we played these guys in McCamish around this time last season with a game script that looked not too dissimilar from the Notre Dame game yesterday. Some brutal officiating late turned the tide against us and we will be looking for revenge once again.
Earl Grant chained together a couple decent seasons (by BC standards) but the team have noticeably regressed this season after losing most of their productivity to a combo of the NBA, graduation, and the transfer portal. Donald Hand Jr is really the main guy we'll need to shut down. He can score at every level and rebounds well for his 6'5 frame. Schedule-wise, they've had a bunch of tight battles with mid majors and lost a couple. In conference, they got blown out by SMU at home and lost at Wake Forest in a tighter game.
Boston College is pretty bad on both sides of the ball and ranks among the bottom of power conferences in both offensive and defensive efficiency. They play a fairly slow half-court offense and will try to score off the bounce in iso situations. They don't assist many buckets but still manage to turn the ball over at a decent clip, so their assist to turnover ratio is horrendous and ranks in the lower end of Division 1. Because they have a difficult time getting open looks, they mostly refrain from taking a large volume of contested 3s. The one thing they do well is that they have some length and are forward-heavy so CDS will probably have a huge focus on preventing second chance points after ND cleaned up on the glass against us. Definitely need Mutombo and Baye to stay out of foul trouble as usual and get good, high energy, team rebounding from Shag Man and Moose. Hopefully students will plan to arrive back in Atlanta early for the Saturday noon tip and can bring some energy to propel our defense to another 1st-half-Notre-Dame type performance.
Defensively, these guys play some of the worst perimeter defense in all of Division 1, so Lance and Javian will get their looks. Let's hope the basket is a mile wide on Saturday for them.
For what it's worth, they host Miami today at noon on ACC Network, so tune in before the college football playoff steals your attention.
