I think it’s fair to acknowledge we won’t win any games with Miles scoring 0. That being said, we’re at the point now where he’s shot almost 450 threes and 160 FTs in college. The sample size is there. He’s shooting 34.4% and 77% respectively. He’s a pretty good college shooter, not much else though. And while at times he does look like a good shooter, he’s not consistent enough to make the NBA or any top international league due to his other limitations.

I think CDS has thrown down the gauntlet to the team. He has publicly, for the 2nd time, expressed what he expects from our players. He expects them to give the same level of effort that he gave when he played. Some kids today get that, some don't. I expect that we'll lose 6-7 players off the current roster. I think the foreign kids will be ahead of the American kids, but that's based on what I see from my kids and their friends. From my personal experience, I don't see that fire in the belly from the kids my son plays with (and he plays with elite kids). CDS has challenged our players. He's challenged Kelly to be a leader on and off the court. He's challenged Kelly to be a leader, even when he doesn't score. To my observations, Kelly's been hot and cold with this. I see that Gapare has been hot and cold. I see Abram has been ice cold. I see the younger players being inconsistent in performance and the older players being inconsistent in effort. I could easily see CDS clean house of the half-effort guys and start anew next year, building on Ndongo, George, Terry, and the new crop coming in. Those who also want to put 100% effort 100% of the time will also be welcome to stay. Half the team will be gone.

We all wanted Kelly back. And as soon as he returned it looked like he was on board with the new program, expanding his game to include penetrating, rebounding, unselfish passing and improved defense. We all recognized his shooting slump and most of us showed patient support for him to get through it.

At an earlier presser, CDS talked about one particular thing he has no tolerance for; bad body language. Watching the positive efforts of Ndongo, George, Reeves, & Sturdivant the last 2 games through bad losses, the only other eligible guy with enough skill & experience on this team has been exposed as completely lost. He looks like he doesn’t belong. The physical & mental lapses by a player with his experience makes me wonder if his face is showing frustration, disappointment or just a lack of interest or caring about winning.

I think everyone, including CDS, wanted & expected him to be the #1 contributor on this team. As the only returning starter, he should have established himself, by just taking it, the team leadership. Now, if one thing is clear, he lacks leadership or any desire to acquire that attribute. And with Nait George grabbing that role as a freshman, Reeves always playing with positive energy, Ndongo always playing hard, Kelly looks like a weak link. We already spot our opponents one quality player in the starting 5 lineup. Adding another and this team stops being fun for fans to watch.

With recruiting on such a major upswing I don’t doubt that the future under CDS is going to be a bright one. Just don’t like admitting I am losing interest in watching them play right now.

And even worse than that, losing like this brings out the haters, who when the team does things like upsetting Clemson at Littlejohn or beat top 25 teams back to back, never offer anything complimentary, just “crickets”. Now these geniuses want CDS gone, so Tech has to absorb his payoff, find & contract with a new coach, have a top 20 ranked recruiting class all decommit, and lose George, Ndongo & Reeves to the portal. We desperately need to win now just to shut them up. Heck, if we win a National Championship we might never hear from them ever again.

I know “close” doesn’t matter, but we are so close. We have a couple stretches every game when we can’t get a stop on the one end and/or score on the other end. Who do we go to when we need a must-have bucket? I thought it would be Kelly, but that hasn’t worked out unfortunately. Our freshman have obviously hit some big buckets, but right now I don’t feel like we have a streak stopper that can get us a bucket when we really need one. On the other end, it seems like guys are hitting must-have shots when they need them and we can’t get that stop when needed. Diaz-Graham and Leggett both hit daggers last night. Carrington is a really nice player. Loved his mid range jumper. I’m hoping some guys get a hold of coach’s message and bring it on Saturday. I’ll be watching!

I've been thrust into plenty of jobs where people want immediate results. It isn't always easy to sell "be patient". In this case, unfortunately we need to be patient. We got here over a decade, it will take longer than 10 days to get us out of this rut. I think we got our man if he doesn't sour on us and go elsewhere.

CDS is a straight killer. I would love to have a guy like this coaching my son in any sport. If he can recruit players in his own mold (I.e. if enough of them still exist these days), I think he can take this program to the highest level. In the meantime, I hope some of the current players buy in and just start balling out because they have nothing to lose. I think Sturdivant and Reeves are candidates.

Maybe Kelly was born to play in the Princeton offense. He is certainly not thriving in this NBA offense. He doesn't look nearly as good this year.

As to Kelly, CDS gave the answer several times. He did it in his between the lines way that he does. Not naming players, blaming them, or throwing them under the bus.

“Do you love the game?”

He suggested that basketball is not just about scoring points, that you may have nights where you don’t score much, but are you doing all the other things needed to help your team win? He then named those other things, including defense, assists, helping your brother etc. You’ve got to love all these aspects of the game. It’s a team sport.

I took Miles out “because I needed someone with some energy.”

Asked about the opposing coach’s comments about his team, “Well then, I’ve got to get a tougher team then.”

Team sport. “We are not a team that can play one on one.”

Paraphrasing…. “I’m a big picture guy but if we could play with energy all the time it could be a here and now thing and we wouldn’t have to talk about big picture.”

Makes me wonder when the light is going to go on for some of these players. For those for whom it doesn’t, they will have missed a great opportunity to play for a coach who has a lot he can teach them.

Stats seem to agree. Somewhat more volume, lower percentages. Points about the same. Defense is worse when he plays. Ironically, his Defensive BPM numbers are better this season.

So, what you’re saying is, CDS insinuated Miles Kelly is NOT doing the little things to help GT win when he’s not scoring. I could have sworn posters here claimed otherwise when I said what CDS said weeks ago.

Haters gonna hate. Put ‘em on ignore. I am 100% certain that Jbatt sees & knows what’s happening and is behind CDS, so let ‘em hate if that’s fulfilling for them. Personally I am 100% bought into CDS, even if we are “hard to watch” right now.
