How much institutional support does the GTAA receive?

You seem to be ignoring the fact that the AA/school plays a significant role in getting people to attend games and give money...? People who sense that the institution is not excited about athletic excellence will tend to be less excited themselves. This would be like evaluating an...

How much institutional support does the GTAA receive?

If you're aiming for technical fidelity to the statute (er... regs), then neither of us is quite correct – but providing a detailed explanation of Title IX gender equality requirements is beyond the scope of this thread. Practically speaking, what I said IS true. Here, the correlation...

How much institutional support does the GTAA receive?

What I hate about these kinds of analyses is that they are usually fodder for people to rail against 'big-money' in college sports... which completely misunderstands what these analyses really reveal. People's interest in football and men's basketball means those programs generate a huge...

Can Georgia Tech win a National Championship with CPJ?

Dumb question. Of course it's possible. Not even that unlikely. If we'd beaten FSU in 2014, and Wisconsin beat Ohio St, there's a good chance that we would've been in the playoff. That was only two years ago.

Life after Paul Johnson.... hypothetical question

Amazingly, I know of these boosters myself. A good friend who was a player for Dodd in the SEC days says many of his former teammates and similarly-aged friends were not terribly thrilled by the UGA win because they knew it meant CPJ would be around longer. He and I agree that this is madness...

    In case you forgot...

I can't wait for us to beat UGA regularly enough that we don't feel the urge to tear up the hedges.

Classy yet perplexing tweet from Vad Lee

I liked Vad, thought he was a good player for us and a good S-A for the school. I was shocked and very sad when he decided to transfer. I hate it when people complain about a player after he leaves. It's like thinking ill of the dead – nothing good comes of it.

    Genuine Questions!

Yes, those are the 'standard explanations' (and maybe the right ones) for these two situations. But IMHO, neither is a sufficient nor satisfactory explanation, and both cases suggest there's some opaque miscommunication between player and staff that I'm sure both regret.

Annapolis newspaper article on option offense

To this uninformed guy, Monken seems like the most likely successor to CPJ, assuming he doesn't go somewhere else first.

    Genuine Questions!

I completely understand kids transferring who are not getting playing time. How much fun can it be to be a tackling dummy in practice and an obstruction on the sideline during games? No complaints from me if a kid who's not as good as our starters wants to try somewhere else, somewhere where...

CPJ On Current Transfers - Fair Article?

I assume you already know this, but for everyone else on the board who might not, almost no firms hire first-year law students for paying gigs... so the fact the font took a "full-time unpaid gig" after his first year is not a meaningful data point for him. The good news is that after your...

Georgia Tech Headed to the TaxSlayer Bowl

Yes, it is weird when old bowls fall and new bowls rise. I remember being befuddled by the rise of the Fiesta Bowl and the fall of the Cotton Bowl 20 years ago. But like any business or charity or other organization, the bowls are run by people who sometimes do a good job and sometimes do a...

Georgia Tech Headed to the TaxSlayer Bowl

Does anyone have any idea what the sponsorship money differential was between "the Taxslayer Gator Bowl" and just "the Taxslayer Bowl"?

    who makes more FB plays...

I hate to sound like I'm ragging on any of our student-athletes, and Michael Johnson has gone on to be a very productive pro. But it took him a while to get going as a YJ. We all remember the two Maryland sacks, and various other moments, but he spent a lot of time at GT trying to get on the...

    Is this good or bad?

How long have I been a Tech fan? Well, my dad narrowly missed playing in the Rose Bowl for Coach Alec. So I'm old enough to know the phenomenon you're describing is a product of about 40 years of mediocrity – wasn't always that way, and no reason it has to be that way anymore.

    Is this good or bad?

I wonder how Alabama players react when they see that they are favored yet again... with confidence or with over-confidence? We're no Alabama, but nor will we ever be if we don't start having some confidence in ourselves... confidence enough not to worry too much about the talking-heads on ESPN.

What lot are all my GT fans tailgating at UGA

There are always a lot of Tech fans in the school parking lot... (sorry can't remember the name of the school off the top of my head. maybe a middle school?)
