It is more about recent trends than overall record. They have been around .500 the last 3 years and that is with probably 2 more cupcake games than we get. He also ran their recruiting into the ground. Firing him was the right call, but they are not that attractive a job right now, IMO.
Easier path, in a way. But also, you have to go undefeated at VT to make the playoff whereas you can definitely get in the conversation with one-loss in the SEC. And the recruiting landscape just isn't that good up there by comparison. I would think Miami would interest him more than VT. He...
Not a big thing. We needed a warm body in the QB room because Peery wasn't going to be ready due to not having a senior season in high school. Beatty is probably just getting experience for a future Grad Assistant position. I don't think we ever planned on playing him.
We were in no man's land. A punt likely goes into the endzone. A FG is likely a miss and gives them even better field position. A quick kick was a possibility, but I don't have a problem going for it. Of course, we couldn't block anyone and allow Yates to take a reasonable shot at the endzone.
Agree with all this. Yates isn't gonna kill us but he isn't gonna win for us either. But whether it is Sims or Yates, QB is actually pretty far down the list of issues to even argue about. Nobody is gonna win with the rest of our game being in complete disarray.

Collins is a defensive minded coach and a former DC himself. No way you would ask him to keep or bring in a DC who doesn't run the same defensive scheme. That's akin to telling CPJ to bring in an OC to run pro style.
Jim Panagos. From my recollection, he was hired and on the staff for a few days before Minnesota gave him a better offer. I guess I worded what I said poorly. I get that these are CGC's choices, but at the same time, we are 46th out of 51 schools in staff budget. My hope was that these guys...
