Out of genuine curiosity, where is the big Tech Donor forcing a certain narative coming from? I've seen nothing that even hints at that in the various news outlets that cover Tech.
After browsing the reddit threads, it seems like there are some legitimate corruption concerns around GMU, but also a lot of individuals arguing Federal politics (their law school hired Kavanaugh and has Koch funding for instance)

I think Bill Snyder at KState is the only modern coach to pull it off. Historically, General Neyland at Tennessee was able to pull off returns to campus twice. (He left both times for military service and won conference and/or national titles in all of his stints.)

I think both roll call and the AT fund need to be advertised as things you can automatically deduct from your paycheck every pay period. At even $5 per paycheck you'd be looking at ~$120/year per person, but most people are willing to pay more in small chunks than lots in one go.
When our 12th commit made it official today we were ranked ahead of the mutts in Athens with the rankings. They've now been reevaluated ahead of us, but its still a good feeling.
