24-25 over the last 4 years indicates this is not what we had.
I appreciate Johnson for the success he had but in reality he had 3 good years. 08, 09 & 14. 2 of those years were powered by Gailey players in his first 2 years. Viewing our program in its current state as ascending is seeing a...
In all sincerity, what roster in the Coastal is worse than ours? The games we won were due to scheme, not talent. Changing schemes negates that. It will take time to get the talent level where we need to be.
Agreed. The program needed a change of direction. If I were to choose a coach to lead our team with 2019 in mind I would choose CPJ. If I were to choose a coach for the future of our program passed that it would be someone else. We always knew the transition away from this offense would be...
Maybe so. I’ll defer to you on the traditional powers thing.
However, Johnson was not an average recruiter by GT standards. He was even below Gailey who was worse than the previous 4 coaches before him in that regard. This notion that we should base our expectations for recruiting off the...
I agree it provides some hurdles. I just don’t view them as insurmountable and using them to explain in any way Johnson’s recruiting is what gets me going. He just couldn’t recruit. There is a reason he was never offered a job at a traditional power.
I agree with you to an extent. Basically the change has really occurred since Johnson was hired as our coach so in reality none of us have any clue what our ceiling in regards to recruiting is in modern college football. I think most agree it wasn’t being reached by CPJ, but how much meat was...
I think coach Collins is capable of bringing in the type of classes O’Leary, Lewis and Ross brought in. Time will tell if I’m right. If I’m wrong however it will be because of funding and not academics.
You are correct in that it has certainly been the exception under our last 2 coaches. One a pro guy with limited experience in the college game and with recruiting upon taking the job. And with a guy running an offense that was perceived as hurting ones chances to get to the next level. There is...
What you keep slamming your fist on the table about is nothing more than your negative perception of our program that is simply not based in historical fact. You sound like a fan of a rival of ours.
This program has shown it can recruit at a Top 25 level before yet you choose to completely...
We have certainly had years where we have taken in over 25 players. The Brad Stewart class comes to mind. Generally speaking though you are correct.
What Brohm has done for recruiting at Purdue does show that a coach can outperform historical norms.
I think the class Brohm has brought in at Purdue this year should be somewhat the norm for us. 5 4 star players and a class ranking of 27. Purdue’s classes before he arrived were consistently in the 70’s. This is an example of a coaching staff making all the difference.
