  1. Will one of our QB's step up like JN did?

+1000 Logan Thomas is a great example. Had a great first year starting with a veteran talented receiving corps, senior laden OL, and great RB PLAY. And he feasted on our D.
  2. Freshmen to report tomorrow

Anything is possible but after losing Robbins, Akins, & Kitchens, plus having lots of unexperienced guys, no proven pass rushers, and being low on numbers, the probability of an effective DL isn't good. However it could happen IF: --we can stay healthy --two of Gamble, Commisiong, & Kallon can...
  3. Freshmen to report tomorrow

Roof has a major problem this year with DL. MAJOR. Both DE spots are huge question marks. DT starters look OK but Green is smallish and has been oft injured. Tell me who is going to rotate in to Keep these guys fresh? What if there's an injury? Same thing for DE but we don't even have...
  4. Jimmy Kitchen....

I think this is actually a big loss: 1) We are short bodies on DL already. 2) Pass rush is an issue and that was Kitchen's best attribute. 3) While not a starter he had game experience and DT's usually need time to develop in college. Would have been in the rotation this year and a potential...
  5. CPJ discusses QBs

If we block well enough in the interior and perimeter we'll have a fine year on O. If we dont then it would take amazing individual talent like a Dwyer & a Bebe Thomas to have a great year...talent we dont appear to have. QBs look terrible when theres little blocking no matter how good they are.
  6. B Back

Hell even if they dont hurry up and just do the check to the sidelines part that can tip off a blitz for the OL....
  7. Georgia Tech has a official visitor coming in

Agree people confuse top end speed witb 40 yd dash speed. Some guys top out after 30 or 40 yds and others keep accelerating. Dwyer was a 4.55 guy but get him loose past 30 or 40 yds and he pulled away from almost everybody. You can have a good 40 time based on mostly your first 20 to 30 yds...
  8. B Back

Maybe the no huddle look to the sidelines stuff we were doing in spring could let us make an adjustment to teams showing attack.
  9. On the OL, What is More Important....

At G imo we want kids who can drive block and pull a la Shaq Mason. At C and especially T the job description includes cutting off pursuit at the second level.
  10. A brief look at the 2013 recruiting class

One thing I'd do is NOT hold back a couple of scbolarsbips for walk-ons or transfers. Recruit for a full roster and use all your schollies. Attrition will free up those scollies for your deserving walk-ons and transfers so holding back 'ships for those is redundant and leaves you short.
  11. Snap count

Seems like there are guys who just struggle with it. Gilbert who transferred to Ga State jumped all the time. Chamberlain jumps a lot. GT does some interesting things with its snap count that allows it to frequently draw defenses offsides on 3rd and 4th and short. The negative of it seems to be...
  12. Byerly

If the OL struggles: If it's pass pro I'd take JT because of his escapeability. If it's a run I'm tending to think Byerly because he's more likely to hold onto the foosball and possibly break a tackle for postive yards. Then again if pass pro breaks down maybe you want the guy who'll throw it...
  13. Byerly

Glad we have Byerly. At the very least you have a solid #2 who can get tough yards and wear down a D.
  14. Damon Mitchell gets moved in 1st Spring Practice

Not suprised either. A lot of people saw this coming. IMO he'll be a S there eventually.
  15. Damon Mitchell gets moved in 1st Spring Practice

Kid was scared of competing with Vad and got sold a bag of BS by Arky. Now Vad is gone and he'd be competing for a starting QB job if he'd come to GT. http://m.arkansasnews.com/sports/derby-mitchell-scrimmage-new-roles
  16. Will the QB position be better this year?

I went with same because we will like last year be breaking in new starter who needs game reps plus OL is likely to be the same.
  17. Saturday Scrimmage updates

Neither player is at GT anymore and this dead horse argument resurrects itself in a thread about a Spring Scrimmage. One thing you can be sure about: Whether JT or Byerly starts about half the fans are going to be BITTERLY calling for the back up and they will be willing to take this argument...
  18. Quarterback Style

Agree but only to the extent that JT must WIN the job by being BETTER than Byerly, or, if they are about equal, then yeah, play JT more. Or if your team no longer has any goals to play for then at that time you can start to play for the future and your team will understand it is rebuilding time...
  19. Vad Lee Update

IMO Vad was a very promising recruit for the offense who just didn't pan out for mental reasons. To his credit he came here, gave it a try, and decided he couldn't commit to it. There seemed to be several reasons he didn't like it: First, he struggled running the base offense. Maybe he would...
  20. A few notes from practice Tuesday

People sort of forgetc that b backs also block in pass pro as well as run block. They also are at times receivers. It's pretty simple....if Custis can block well and learn the nuances of who to block and how to determine meshpoints and other presnap assignments, he'll probably play. If he cant...
