  1. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

Yeah this would be a pretty long timeline. I can understand waiting a year or 2, just for the financial reasons/NCAA sanctions to become more palatable. But otherwise, if the right coach is out there, it really seems like we would be doing more harm than good from a fan interest, recruiting...
  2. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

Haha again, I'm not sure why you get the impression that anyone who has a different view than you is miserable. This is literally a place to talk about sports, nothing miserable about it. Maybe you're projecting, since you are the one who seems to come on here and get upset. I was trying to...
  3. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

I still believed we had a shot to win against an average ND team, even without Devoe. Against a Duke, Louisville, FSU? Yeah, overcoming that loss might be insurmountable. But the fact that you felt like the game was probably already over before it started speaks volumes about our depth...
  4. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

Honestly not trying to troll you about this. But what did you expect to see on here after a tough loss to an average team? I agree that the negativity can be rough, but we are in fact 10-12 when a lot of us had expectations of being a bubble team.
  5. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

Exactly, the excuses and rationalizing have gotten old. We aren't even consistently beating middle of the pack teams (except NCSU). At some point you have to win these kinds of games and pull off upsets to get to the tournament.
  6. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

I know what you mean. I was mainly referring to some of the excuses that consistently have come up during pressers after close/disappointing losses. I don't want us to roll the dice and make a change for the sake of making a change. But agreed, if the AD puts out feelers and there is a proven...
  7. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

Look, I totally understand this take. But at some point, it's pretty rare for a team to be 100% healthy the entire year, and you have to have the depth to make up for injuries. Like I said, there have been some weird/difficult circumstances the last few years. But at what point do we stop...
  8. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

I see the distinction, I was also really pulling for him. He seemed like a good guy who couldn't get out of the giant shadow Calipari left behind at Memphis. After his first season here, I was hoping we found the right coach. But the progression hasn't been there. This season, to say that he...
  9. Next Up - Revenge - Hopefully Sweet

The NIT is a pipe dream at this point. Not sure how people can continue to give the staff a pass...At some point we have to elevate our standards or we will continue to watch our team lose (and get swept by the way) to mediocre teams like the ND team we played today.
  10. Coaching Carousel 5 - You have to look through the rain to see the rainbow

Eventually we do have to stop with the learned helplessness. In terms of finding the right coach, I firmly believe this is less about the money and more about the NCAA sanctions. If we are talking about a long term commitment of 10-20 years then the extra 2-2.5MM to prevent further damage to...
  11. Coaching Carousel 5 - You have to look through the rain to see the rainbow

This incoming class ranking should be the floor of where recruiting should be. Otherwise I agree that we can be much better than we are. I don't think we can or will be Duke, but we can be a very good team that consistently makes the tourney.
  12. Coaching Carousel 5 - You have to look through the rain to see the rainbow

Exactly. I think Martin is making ~$3M per year. But the point remains that there are coaches out there who are substantially better than what we have come up with in the last 2 cycles. Even Capel seems like he is on track to be significantly better than Pastner. At some point we have to get...
  13. Coaching Carousel 5 - You have to look through the rain to see the rainbow

I agree, we will have to pay the price to bring in a good coach. I think you cited 7 yrs $21M for Chris Mack, and that seems around what we will need to provide for someone of that caliber. Possibly more given the challenging aspects of the job... But say we don't land the "home run hire." I...
  14. Coaching Carousel 5 - You have to look through the rain to see the rainbow

That's your take. Sure, he probably comes back next year, but this thread is called "Coaching Carousel 5." So it seems more than fitting to discuss potential prospects and how we can realistically get there
  15. Coaching Carousel 5 - You have to look through the rain to see the rainbow

No way, hard pass on Ritchie McKay. What reason is there to think that he is ready for this job and the challenges that come with it? He has experience but has been very underwhelming with CSU, OSU, and New Mexico. If he's seriously in the running, we might as well just take a flyer on another...
  16. Game Thread - @ Louisville,1/22

That's exactly what I was saying in the chat. It's an obvious indictment on the coaching staff when we have a 6-7 man rotation and 0 bench points...The players give it everything they have, but the coaches have to put them in a position to win. And that means finding ways to get them rest so...
  17. Coaching Carousel 5 - You have to look through the rain to see the rainbow

Also, as far as the decision to fire this year vs next year goes - Some of that should depend on our candidate pool. If the right guy is out there this year, then we should take the extra 2-2.5MM hit and get the right coach. IMO that is worth it, and in the long run we will be able to make...
  18. Coaching Carousel 5 - You have to look through the rain to see the rainbow

I think the transfer concern is real, especially if the postseason ban gets pushed to next year. I would worry about DeVoe, Moore, Price, and pretty much anyone else who is unhappy exploring their options. Moore is barely even playing right now, so it's hard to imagine he's happy.
  19. Game Thread - UVA, 1/18/2020

Is it really a silly argument? Jose is a great player regardless of his recruiting ranking so I'm not going to touch that. The bottom line is this program should be able to get some elite players per the rankings (eg Shumpert, MGH, Robert Carter Jr., Devoe, etc.). We should never has a...
