To add to my post above I seem to remember Orwin had a big KR as a tr-fr that may have decided the "W"vs Duke that year.
So it's hard for me to gauge Whether it's worth it or not to play some of these tr-fr. for STs only. I would like to have seen what Waller could do with another year. IMO...
Also a quick add....our pass pro was by far the best it has ever been. Several times we gave Thomas time in obvious passing downs.
Of course opposing Ds also have to have controlled rush with a spy on Thomas or he will make you pay for your insolence! Still though we did protect very well.
Big...
Johnson said in an interview in 2009 the OL was nowhere near where it needed to be. He said we had some skill guys who were off the charts who carried the offense.
IMO last year the OL was where it needed to be or close to it. Then add Thomas and a workmanlike effort on the perimeter along with...
Two guys I would have liked to have had as 5th yr seniors:
Orwin Smith -- Almost all ST duties as tr-fr
Darren Waller -- ST duties as tr-fr. Would be huge to have him coming back next year!
Mostly though I think the coaches get it right. Waller did block a punt I think his freshman year.
Nice write up!
Schedule is tough next year and injuries at key positions can make or break a season.
That said I do feel we are starting to build some good depth which is nice to see. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Actually our O is built for playoff football. The option just gets better with reps and it is a ***** to prepare for in a week. For GT the more teams they let in the better.
G-C-G + QB + BB = Core offensive strength.
Last year with anew starter at C & QB the offense was supposed to struggle. But Burden and JT proved to be big time strengths rather than weaknesses. And Days provided an effective 1-2 punch w/ Zach at BB. Add in the impeccable play of Shaq with nice...
A few things our BBs HAVE to be able to do:
Make correct presnap reads for mesh and blocking
Secure the football on runs
Hit the hole fast enough to be effective
Sims and Days had a big advantage on getting the presnap read correct. One would think Byerly would as well as all but Leggett are...
Actually my post was inspired by another font who said, "Imagine what would happen on the board if Stanford made a late push for Stewart."
About spit out my coffee on that one...
What Jabari is doing is actually a very rare story in college football. Not a lot of student athletes who run into academic trouble like this make it back.
And not only is he making it back he has a terrific attitude and is working hard to make himself and others better on the field. Here is a...
I like Omari Jarrett as a prospect. Will need to develop but looks quick fast and skilled on tape.
Cotrell has some serious tools as well.
These guys have to learn the assignments and get the blockinh down first though.
Kallon was a project. Projects take awhile to develop and some never develop. We'll see what happens.
Waller is a another guy who was a project and who a lot of fans got really down on.
Now most are wishing we'd redshirted him instead of playing him on STs as a true frosh.
Football and DL in...
Really happy for Shawn. Graduation picture was awesome. Very happy he was able to stay healthy. Critical player on defense this year we could not afford to lose!
Wow no analysis of OL.
As good as Justin is no QB can function well without a good OL. Though it hurts losing Shaq we should still have a great OL.
Wonder if same is true for Clemmens & Seafood? Nice recognition but analysis is lacking. Also no mention of D?
We love and appreciate you BJ! You already are doing well in life and that is just going to continue.
And to think replacing Godhigh was a major concern! Bostic & Co. put on a clinic showing the TEAM way to get that done. Tough play during the OB sprang several perimeter runs.
Respect!
I feel like our team's no quit character comes from guys like Perk. So happy and grateful he had a terrific year. Looking forward to seeing what this special young man ends up doing.
It's great to be a yellow jacket!
